Sony Must Refresh the PS4's Momentum At GamesCom

Ever since Jack Tretton and company dropped the microphone at E3 2013, quite a lot has changed about the impending next generation arms race. The advantages that the platform holder engineered for the PlayStation 4 – partially accelerated by Microsoft’s own incompetence – have gradually stated to erode, as the Redmond-based manufacturer has scrapped its controversial used games plans and self-publishing restrictions for the Xbox One. Despite all of this, Sony’s system is still riding high on a chorus of consumer goodwill – partly impacted by the platform’s cheaper price point – but the organisation must ensure that it keeps its nose in front, and it can start by landing a series of heavy haymakers at GamesCom.

Realistically what games Sony will announce at Gamescom are The Last Guardian (finally), Agent, and LBP3. They may save Uncharted 4 for VGA

while Microsoft seems will announce Fable IV and some new footage of Ryse and Dead Rising 3.

xReDeMpTiOnx1036d ago (Edited 1036d ago )

Last guardian most likey will not be shown at gamescon, considering last guardian is being worked on by SCEJ it will most like be shown at TGS.

Just wait for gamescon I know Sony will come out with something like they almost always do.

It's good there is competition now between the x1 and ps4 now it makes Sony work that much harder

xHeavYx1036d ago

I don't think they will announce GT6 because DriveClub is coming out.
I do agree that they have to make some big announcements, especially now that it's rumored that MS may come up with something big too

HowarthsNJ1036d ago (Edited 1036d ago )

The Last Guardian was put on HIATUS, last I heard.

ohiostatesman1035d ago

Rumors say MS is going to announce Crackdown 3 in all its glory.

Maddens Raiders1036d ago (Edited 1036d ago )

As much as I want them to tease GT6 on PS4 I don't think they will yet because they don't want to hurt the PS3 version's sales. If they make the official announcement of a new Uncharted, Legend of Dragoon remake, TLG or something totally unexpected they could blow the lid off the show.

Overall though, I think as long as Sony sticks to what they do best which is emphasize games, games, and more games they'll be just fine.

People need to forget about The Last Guardian (at least for this year.)

Thatguy-3101036d ago

a 3d lbp game from MM and I'm honestly sensing a Heavenly Sword 2 announcement.

Maddens Raiders1036d ago (Edited 1036d ago )

Man I was going to write in Heavenly Sword as the "unexpected game" but was terrified at the amount of disagrees I might get lol.

Boy oh boy, if they did that I would literally lose my mind. I know some people hated on it because of the length, but within the actual timeframe of the gameplay itself, from beginning to end, Ninja Theory managed to pack in one of the best told (and acted) stories on the PS3 hands down. I will never ever forget HS. Such a great game; I was so disappointed when I read a couple of years ago that there wouldn't be a remake. Have you learned anything different on this?

SnotyTheRocket1035d ago

Sorry to say, but i think Mm said they aren't working on LBP3. It's being made by another dev.

brianace1036d ago

I think Agent is dead, isn't it?

HammadTheBeast1036d ago

Not too much talk of it, but recently some websites and trademarks were renewed.

HugoDrax1036d ago

You should have put (finally) after Agent as well hahaha! I remember when the Sony rep came into my store to update our PLAYSTATION 3 kiosk at the time and was telling me about the Agent. How disappointed I was when it was canned, but now it's looking like it will have new life on PS4 :-)

Rip-Ridah1035d ago (Edited 1035d ago )

Make sure that you aren't talking about 'The Agency'. A Sony rep wouldn't have that info to share regarding Take-Two/Rockstar's game. Agent has never been "canned" but SOE's The Agency has been canned so to speak. I believe that you have the titles mixed up. Easy mistake to make I suppose.

HugoDrax1035d ago

Yeah I was referring to The Agency hahaha! My mistake. This was approximately 3-4 years ago I suppose when the Rep had come into the store. I use to manage a few long and forgotten GameCrazy stores hahaha!

DragonKnight1035d ago

Wow, are sequels really all of your most anticipated games? Geez, think bigger.

RytGear1035d ago

You can't exactly guess new IPs...

Kind of the point of them being new.

DragonKnight1035d ago

True, but you also don't have to say "gee, I hope Uncharted 53 comes out" instead of "I hope they blow us away with some huge new IP."

pyramidshead1036d ago

Doubt they're going to have any trouble doing that if I'm honest.

MysticStrummer1036d ago (Edited 1036d ago )

I'm sure Sony won't just be coasting from here on out. They know they've done very well so far and MS is playing catch-up, but they also know next gen is a marathon that hasn't even started yet.

"We very consciously at the [PS4 reveal] event in New York on February 20 showed a lot of software, a lot of first party software. What we did at E3 was really show some updates to those games and introduce The Order 1886.

"There's a lot [of games] coming. I'm sure you heard from Shuhei [Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios] that he has, just from his studios, 30 games in development. 20 are going to ship within the first year of the console's life and of those 12 are new IPs, so there's a lot going on, it's just that we need to keep stuff back. We've got Gamescom for us Europeans and we need something to show at Gamescom."

ABeastNamedTariq1036d ago

I'm really glad that Sony studios are making so many new IPs. And with the care that put into most of their games, I think they're gonna turn out great. It'll introduce new franchises and experiences for the PS4, and it'll set the PS4 up for greater things in the long run. And of course, that new IP support isn't going to run dry after the first few years, hehe :P

XabiDaChosenOne1036d ago

It's time for Sony to show the true potential of the PS4 and I have no doubt that they will exceed my expectations.

They just need to keep the games coming, methinks. Their lineup is already great, I'm just saying that they should people hyped up for what's coming in the first year. I have no worries though; they have plenty more to show. I can't say the same for MS, but I think they're gonna bring their A-game to so they can sell more people on their console. (But Gamescom is in Europe, right?

The end of August can't come soon enough.

P.S. - And if Sony announces some JRPGs at TGS, I'm gonna explode. Persona 5 anyone?
