The Best Video Game Character of All Time?

JumpToGamer:

We’re friends right? We’ve known each other for a long time so I feel like I can be honest with you: I hated Cole Phelps at first. In fact, when LA Noire released back in 2011 I stopped playing for a month because of him. Part of its my fault, I didn’t go into the game with the right mindset. Seeing Rockstar on the front of the game (I know they only published it) and expecting it to be like another GTA or Red Dead was a mistake. After I did finally beat the game I couldn’t help but feel disappointed. My most anticipated game in recent years had failed to live up to my expectations. However this year I decided to jump back into 1947 Los Angeles to give the game another go, I am a future noir detective after all. Quickly I started to pick up on a lot more character traits that make Cole Phelps such an awesome (Culture, L.A. Noire)

I'll throw Guybrush Threepwood into the pool. And The Nameless One from Planescape Torment.

I gotta be honest, Cole Phelps wouldn't even be in my top 50, probably.

I think Cole is an awful video game character. There isn't really much to him that makes me think he is one of the best especially when he inhabits a realistic world. He would be way down in my list

For me it is difficult for the number one spot

Sackboy has charm which really blends well with the universe he lives in and he shows some basic levels of emotion

Joel and Ellie were pretty good if not excellent but I think they are best together than on their own

Nathan Drake is an arse. I like him but he is an arse so he will not be near the top. On the Uncharted front Sully is a better character

Mario works in a way as he has charm but hasn't really got much of a character

I might need to ponder this

Don't get me wrong. HL is one of my favorite franchises in the world, but Gordon Freeman is not exactly a good "character" in the strictest sense of the word.

You are probably right. Didn't have a lot of dialogue did he :-)

But he sure kicked some ass

Mario- although my interest in his games and the platforms he's on has dwindled down to nothing, I still think of Mario as the Superman of videogames. He's the first major star of video games and there are no characters that has endured as long as Mario.

He's not as complex as some of the characters listed in this thread but he really doesn't have to be. Eat mushrooms, save princess. done...

The Boss
Joel
MYShep
Clementine

Those are the first ones that come to my mind. I'm sure if I really took the time my list might be different.

I also through John Marston in as an honorable mention.

Mine is different , She's the most badass female in the history of videogames ..
