I am an older gamers (mid 30s) and I find myself liking quicker but more concentrated experiences these days. I was in love with freedom back whne I first played GTA3 and Morrowind. Sandbox games with open worlds are great but too much freedom tends to make me drift. I love Bethesda but I complete every other of their games but I put the same amount of hours in to al of them its just sometime I get caught up in all these missions and side quests and lose focus on the game and main story itself.

My favorite game this gen would be Gears of War 1. It was structured like a summer mid level action movie. You just drop in to a world you are on a mission and that is it. You meet people hear a little bit about the world as you trudge through but the focus is always the mission. I could put that game in and just zip through it in like 2-4 days and its just like watching a good movie again.

My hope is that the future of games isnt me trudging and grinding doing the same things over and over again for 30 hours but really intense 8-10 hour games that tell good stories. Add time with good multiplayer.

20-35 hours is the sweet spot, i do love 50hour+ RPGs though.
