FFX-0 was very envisaged

In a recent interview in Japan Expo, Paris, the creator of FINAL FANTASY X tells to Final Fantasy Dream redactors that a FINAL FANTASY X-0 was nearly to be produced...

FINAL FANTASY DREAM : If FFX/X-2 HD Remaster meets a big success, do you will think about bringing new parts to the story with new games emphasizing on the origin of FFX and his heroes Braska, Jecht and Auron ?

Motomu Toriyama : When we made X-2, you see it was a very good history with three girls in an adventure together. We actually had an idea and we wanted to make a different game featuring Jecht, Auron and Braska. That kind of people in the previous era to the newest generation. So if we had to do that, we have to create a boot story… with all kind of grown-up man and female travelling together. So that would require a lot of work. It’s was a good idea and we nearly wanted to do that but it didn’t happen... so probably not. (Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster, FINAL FANTASY X-0, Final Fantasy X-2, PS2, PS3)

What on earth are you talking about?

I would've preferred the prequel with Auron, Braska, and Jecht. I couldn't finish X-2, I just thought it was a bad game and the story was completely unnecessary. The writing took a big step down from X as well.

That would be awesome, imagine if they just released X-3 along with without telling anyone untill release xD

" When we made X-2, you see it was a very good history with three girls in an adventure together." Far from it , you should hve done the prequel instead , but .... fanservice won

FFX-2 was fan service? For who?

Anyway, Toriyama is lying here. He says in this interview that it would have been a lot of work to do a "grown up" FFX prequel but in a much earlier interview he said the reason they didn't make it was his idea and it was because it would have been too traditional and expected.

Basically, we got Charlie's Angels FF style because of him and him alone.

I would have definitely preferred a Final Fantasy X-0 than an X-2.

I'd have preferred it greatly over a XII or a XIII, that's for sure, to say nothing of the XIII sequels.

I didn't mind X-2; for me, it got a pass for having a brilliant combat system, probably the best turn-based active system I've ever played. To have a game that improved on it featuring some of the best (or at least "most tolerable") characters in FFX - that would have been great.

I understand the hate for X-2, but I never really GOT it. Personally, I liked the idea of how this world had to cope with not only the absence of a daily threat to their lives, but also the destruction of the very foundation of those lives in the faith of Yevon. For me, Yuna's and the other summoners, as well- attempts to forge a new identity in this world that didn't really need her anymore was interesting in and of itself. Yeah, it was a little campy, but I didn't think like many people and expect another FFX.

That said, I would much rather have had a game set during the Machina war. Just thinking about how radically different that Spira would have been, what led to it, why the Al Bhed split from the other races(if it stems from that)... so much could have been done.

Well, it's not like they can NEVER go back to it, but I don't know how well it would be received, as people seem to enjoy hating Square Enix, these days.

I believe that FF X-2 was fine for its time.
Yeah, it rode on the success train of FFX, & it was a little J-popsy, but that J-pop style was relative & cool at that time. & I definitely would'nt consider it a bad game. The play mechanics were fine, so was the graphics. One of the main drives behind X-2 was that must want'd to know whut happen to Tidus & could Yuna reunite their love. I agree, initially, it felt a bit Charlie's Angel-esque wit 3 women roaming the land, but it gets better, inventive & fun as you play.
Don't know why all the X-2 hate.
& FFX-2 is better than FFXIII-2 as a FF sequel.

Especially agree with that last part. XII-2 was far less engaging than X-2. Granted, I'd prefer the predecessor to each of the sequels, but the sequels themselves aren't that bad, either. Just- in my opinion- not necessarily as GOOD.

... though X-2 gets a bit of a pass from me for having more Rikku.

I certainly can't speak for everyone , i just know my own personal issues with it . For starters , i didnt like FFX characters and story for the most part . it left me underwhelming and literally "meh" . It's sad but that's what happens when there is very few character intriguing you and grabbing you from the get go , and worse when out of those you felt might like (auron , lulu , Kimahri) , you ends up with duds and characters dissapointing in your eyes .

Happened twice already to me , in the serie with FFVIII , but that's another debate .

Still i enjoyed the gameplay of FFX , recognize that it's still beautiful and very well directed . And i was a sucker for the melancolic ending , one that made the cynical me feel like "damn it's a pity i hate you guys , it's moving despite that , and i'd probably love it more if i cared about you"

Then comes X-2 in a setting i already didnt like , ruining a perfect ending with an even less interesting story , with 2 of those characters i already disliked . With added as an extra plenty cheese

And this time while still very well done , i'm not a fan of the faster ATB system , and even less of the questing mission and navigation system .

This of course should be any issues for those loving the game . hell i loved III to VII , FFIX ,XI even , FFXII and barely care about those calling any of those trash . I can even enjoy parts of the XIII series .
