Just in case there was any doubt left in anyone's mind that Gamespot ed ex-chief Jeff Gerstmann came to any mutual understanding about his position at Gamespot last year, consider it put to rest. In the words of the man himself, he was sacked.
Kane and Lynch sux and so does Gamespot.
He's now a better man for it.
Once in time Gamespot didnt suck, though Gerstmann has always sucked. Just look at his reviews, they all suck! This guy is becoming a promising attention whore... He is just not cool, unlike Jaffe.
gertsmann: " gamespot fired me" ArduousAndy:"I stopped caring a long time ago"
In fact I'm sure most of us don't care at this point what happened. Jeff isn't exactly someone I can sympathize with.
No one cares.
calm down both of you. As stated by the N4G Guidelines even if you dont like the news it still has to be published. THere's always some one that is interested in this sort of stuff.
Thank you Anubis, I love it when we come across people that understand the mission of N4G.
You want a cookie fatty? Anyone can do your job, ffs.
no one needs you here either...
As for the story... as long as Jeff can't go into details of why he was fired, there's no need to bring this back up. we know he was fired. We don't have a clear idea as to why... we just know Kane and Lynch had something to do with it.
ok we know now
Duh? Like he had to tell us? What are we, Fox news drones? We (360)gamers can put two and two together on our own, but thanks for the heads-up!
As far as games news goes, it's about as near as it comes to being "important".
I don't see any reason that Jeff can't reveal the reason for his departure. Even if he signed a contract, he could still reveal it. What is CNET going to do? I can't help but think that there's more to it than a bad review.
Jeff has no ties to Gamespot anymore. He has no legal obligations, even if he signed an NDA. Perhaps he was paid to keep it a secret?
gamespot sucks everything about that site is just over rated.
srsly... I dont really care for this guy no more... but come one "decided to sit on the couch and just mope for a while I guess".... ppl gets fired all the time...
People don't get fired LIKE THAT all the time. Do you even know what happend? Idiot.
Who cares anymore? He got canned by Gamespot!!! No $**t. Unless this guy is gonna tell the public why he got canned stop saying the same $**T, over and over and over again. You lost your job, guess what, there are people who do much more labor intensive jobs that lose their jobs everyday. Its a part of life let it go and move on.
He deserved to be let go. His reviews were generally unprofessional regardless of how honest they were or the content in them. If gamespot wanted to move forward to be regarded as a professional entity rather than a group of people that played games, they did a very smart thing firing him.
I generally thought he was a gamer at heart who offered the kind of opinion we expect when wanting a game review, honesty. Trouble is, it got him the sack and it just proves that in an industry being raped by corporations who are trying to suck the soul out of gaming, for big bucks.
To them its money over morales. If a game is turd, they'd rather catch people out and mug them.
EA aren't loved for their passion for gaming are they?
He was a gamer. The problem was exactly that. He didn't take it seriously enough. Somewhere between playing games, and thinking that made him better than everyone else, he forgot that it was his job. It wasn't his passtime anymore; it was his job.
You can voice an opinion all you want, but the second someone pays you for it, you better start making sure it's professional (professional not to be confused with unfunny or untruthful).
Anyone who read/watched his kane vs. lynch review should know that there's no way that should even be in the same league as anything relating to journalism. It wasn't even blog quality (at least on his end... it was blog quality with a huge budget for shiny effects and cuts). It says a lot when you get paid and all you can come up with is blog quality work.
actually if he signed a contract not to say anything then he can be sued for all the money hes got if he says something. its just like a cia agent would be screwed if he told everybody the government secrets. they are under law to stay quiet.
people get fired everyday,we know gamespot fired you,get another job like everyone else has to do,WE KNOW!
no he will be missed.
kane and lynch was the crapiest game ive ever played in my entire life. 1/10.
It's amazing how far some one would go to milk public sympathy. Yes, we know you got fired for speaking your mind Jeff but please for the love of God get over it. We have!
If it wasn't for the Gerstmann firing I probably would have never found my beloved N4G.com. Gerstmann has ALWAYS had the most non-biased reviews in the biz and thats why a lot of people don't like him. I however like people who push developer standards and don't take corporate BULLSH|T!!! Gerstmann is one of the best reviewers out there and it's no wonder why his new website www.giantbomb.com is BLOWING UP THIS SUMMER.
Also for the idiots that say he is just looking for attention. Due to legal reasons he couldn't say why he got fired or IF he was even fired. IT was never concrete until a certain time was over. Which is now and which is why it is news.
Does anyone even really give a sh!t?
