Is Tales of Xillia The JRPG Western Audiences Have Been Waiting For? | DualShockers

As a relative newcomer to the Tales series, I didn’t know what to expect when I got my hands on Tales of Xillia. I know that the game has been available in Japan for nearly two years, and that it met with incredible success; so successful that it’s already received a sequel, Tales of Xillia 2, which has also been available in Japan for nearly a year. But, can it impress a Western audience that has been so divisive on JRPGs?

I'll be picking it up day one to support the series. Absolutely loved Graces, so I'm sure I'll love Xillia. Not to mention it'll give me something to play until GTA V comes out! :]

Abriael1734d ago

Me too, even if having seen quite a bit of both games, I'm more excited for Xillia 2

Snookies121734d ago

Was very happy to hear Xillia 2 was announced for localization as well!

thorstein1734d ago

Is it that good? I have never played a game in the series.

I love JRPGs and my tops are Dragon Quest, Ni No Kuni, Final Fantasy (when it was JRPG) Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger... am I going to get a similar experience?

I guess you've played mostly turn based rpgs am I right?

wishingW3L1734d ago (Edited 1734d ago )

Tales of Phantasia (PS1 version, Japan only), Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Vesperia are the only good Tales games that came to the west.

If you love that JRPG, I assure you will love all tales games. Disgaea series is pretty good too

Tales of graces was so fun. The game itself was like 140+ hours including an additional story with it. Xillia is going to be amazing, getting on day 1 to support as well just cause they already stated 2 will be out next year :) makes me tingle inside just knowing that

I'm trying to remember the last JRPG I picked up for PS3. Was it Ni no Kuni?

Lighter91734d ago

Japan can keep their JRPGs.

Hicken1734d ago

And you can keep your comments.

CrossingEden1734d ago

no it's not, dark souls is the jrpg western fans have been waiting for, cause the LAST thing we need is yet another anime jrpg with androgynous teenagers with extremely long exposition

BlaqMagiq241734d ago

If you don't like them why do you keep commenting on these articles? It's obvious they're not for you.

CrossingEden1734d ago

i haven't commented on a jrpg article in a week, if you have such a problem with my comments, then be mature about it and use the ignore button

BlaqMagiq241734d ago

Don't know how I'm being immature by saying these games are not for you but if that's how my comment come off as then whatever.

Hicken1734d ago

Who cares if it's been a week? You don't like JRPGS, so stop commenting on them.

Your "knowledge" on them is so bad we can all tell you don't actually know anything about them. Yet here you are, spouting nonsense again.

tanookisuit1733d ago

*high five*

JRPGs aren't perfect, we all get that, but neither are Western ones. They all have their issues. But some people have a hard agenda against Japanese anything.
