Coming Soon: Superfast Internet - '10,000 Times Faster Than a Typical Broadband Connection'

THE internet could soon be made obsolete. The scientists who pioneered it have now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds.

At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, "the grid" will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds.

Damn, not that is crazy..Wonder what the cost will be though.

Breakfast3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

lol...100 times faster is not enough. They had to go 10000 times faster.

Im sure they're gonna have a high asking price. Dont they have to make the grids first?

lol..."The power of the grid", the cell has a new partner in crime (or high speeds...)

Edit: @ Below...Fiber guessing steep price.

And i just noticed this
"Holographic video conferencing is not that far away. Online gaming could evolve to include many thousands of people, and social networking could become the main way we communicate."

That sounds pretty

decapitator3879d ago

Am not really sure if they have to but am still amazed by this...whoa!... If the price is too steep, then it will probably take time before it takes off.

IntelligentAj3879d ago

Yeah I don't even want to think how much this is going to cost....

mikeslemonade3879d ago

Still doesn't the change the fact that a lot of people still have dial up.

ZeroXMD3879d ago

This is not a good thing. Yea, it will be fast as heck, but it will be regulated like a muslim at an airport. Not to mention it will be hooked up to the fed. Try saying you don't like a new law on it and have the feds at your door, ready to take you to the concentration camp. It doesn't mention DARPA's involvement in this article. Basically, to put it simply, there will be a GW (remember MGS2) hooked up to this that will follow and track everything you do. You think the regulation on the internet is bad now? Wait for this. Why else would they say that the normal internet would have to disappear for this to come? This isn't a good thing. Google Internet2.

Tempist3879d ago

This is quite eerily similar to the net in Ghost in the Shell. It will be interesting to see what kind of people it will produce in the future.

The Lazy One3879d ago

This is not Internet 2.0. this is a purely technological advance. Internet 2.0 was a new set up of regulations paired with some technological workarounds, but this is mostly technological in it's advancement.

They are two different things that should not be confused.

xhairs3878d ago

Even with all that there something you're trying to hide? So what if I type: terrorism into a google search bar and a fed shows up at my door. They can't prove anything, not to mention there would be so many people around the world doing the same exact thing how can they catch us all?

9/11 conspiracy theories all over again.

Rooted_Dust3878d ago

We may not have anything to hide, but we do have something to protect....our freedom. Anyone who surrenders their freedoms didn't deserve them in the first place.

If someone ever asks you, "what you have to hide?", just ask them in return, "What do you have against freedom, liberty, the rights of the people, and why do you hate them so much?"

Holy Sh! that is impressive.

Amanosenpai3879d ago

not as impressive as the high initial price ^_^

Amanosenpai3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

OMG 2 disagrees for saying that lol, thanks for the rep., i agree ^_^

xhairs3878d ago

Well since it's saying that you can do video telephony (hehe telephony) at the price of a local call, I'd imagine the grid would be much of a gov. funded project and shouldn't be much more than rediculous AT&T DSL (what a joke) or even Cable internet from say Cox(another joke haha so funny today sheesh)

If you look at it, fiber optics still isn't as expensive as either of these are so i don't see what makes this new grid much more expensive :/

take the time to think what lifes going to be like in 50 years.... Freaky.

This tech sounds cool. it will be many years bfore we reap the benifits unfortunatly.

castdreams3879d ago

There were civil war veterans who lived to see atom bombs...
Who knows what we'll live to see.

RJ20003879d ago

The speed of the internet mostlikely wont go up because the size of files will go up as well as the speed of our connections. So this would just balance things out. The only way is if one advances faster than the other.

supahbad3878d ago

why would file sizes increase, like a 30 hour movie? nope

socomnick3879d ago

I hope they make this happen soon I want digital distrubution to offer better quality movies.

WIIIS13878d ago

No prizes for who disagreed with you, and why... hahaha!
