Wii Sales Barely Edge out PS2 in EA Financial Report

Electronic Arts released their Q1 financial reports for fiscal year 2014 on Tuesday. The company reported $949 million in revenue and $222 million in net income. According to the report, PC game sales accounted for $298 million in revenue, higher than the Xbox 360’s $256 million and the Playstation 3’s $238 million. The Wii drew in $3 million for EA. The total revenue for Wii games was barely higher than sales of Playstation 2 games, which brought in $1 million in revenue.

Ummm Just wondering...does EA even release games for the Wii?

Edit. Yeah never heard any buzz regarding their releases on the Wii.

EA released dozens of games on the original Wii.

Concertoine1101d ago

This is hardly news, lol.
The fact that pc generated more than xbox 360 and ps3, THERE is some news.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney1101d ago (Edited 1101d ago )

Why did u just mention a Zynga game? O_o

Also yes in 2012 EA made more from pc than ps3 just behind 360.

If it said Wii U, that would be concerning. I didn't know the Wii and PS2 even mattered at this point.

storyteller1101d ago

Wii U wasn't even listed in the report. Mostly because EA hasn't supported it.

badz1491100d ago

you do know that the Wii U is this gen, right? the fact that it's competing with a last gen console IS concerning despite getting more games than the PS2!

GameCents1100d ago

Has EA ever made more from PS3 this entire generation or has 360 been their main console bred winner from the get go?

I personally buy all my multiplats on 360 unless I can't hekp it.

Hicken1100d ago

Using your head- difficult for you, I know- that would have been a very difficult task for a multiplat publisher like EA to achieve, until the consoles had almost identical install bases.

Even then, other factors- such as 360s being rather notorious for scratching discs- would play a part in the difference in revenue streams.

GameCents1100d ago

That's the best you can do? Replacement discs? Wow. Also, EA make less money off of the Wii, despite the install base being so large, so there goes your arguement.
Then there are those that make more money off of the PS3 like Konami, again despite the install base.
Turns out some publishers make more money off certain brands despite install base. Who would have thunk it?

Also, I thought playstation fans believed that the 360 install base was already smaller than the ps3 one years ago due to most being rrod replacements. In fact I'd bet a pretty penny that you're one of them.
You really should learn to think before attacking people.

Hicken1100d ago

Your rebuttal is "wow," but you talk about MY argument being a wash?

Care to go into ANY GameStop and ask which console has more discs that need refurbishing? Hell, just google it.

And I DID say "other factors," so things like EA's biggest franchises NOT being on the Wii just might have something to do with it.

Good thing your name isn't GameSense...

GameCents1100d ago

There is no denying that discs are scratched, however I doubt it is a contributing factor considering that the xbox 360 ALWAYS makes more money for EA in the tens of millions for the last 7 years.
With the option to install entire games on to hard drive and also not being a mouth breather who moves a console while it is spinning a disc, I doubt that millions of ea discs have been scratched by 360's.

Attach rates have more to do with this than anything. 360 gamers buy more EA games. Simple as.
