Heavy- San Diego Comic Con 2013: Xbox One Hands-On Impressions

The San Diego Comic Con convention is primarily a forum for all nerds to celebrate their favorite comic books, films, cartoons, writers/artists etc. But in recent years, the presence of video games has become even stronger. While exploring the SDCC 2013 showroom floor, Heavy just happened to come across the massive Xbox One demo station. Luckily, Microsoft had several consoles set up for gamers who wanted to test drive the new controller and upcoming releases for the next-gen system.

The story is too old to be commented.

All positive impressions

Yep. Can't wait to have my Xbox One.

You can disagree, Sony fanboys :)

Very positive indeed, looking good..

Let me explain the 'console war', why I like the Xbox One, and why I like the PS4 more.

People want to pick one console, because it's cheaper, and then they want the rival console to suck as much as possible, because they want to make sure they're a) not missing out on anything, and b) making the educated decision.

Xbox One, for Xbox fans, will be absolutely enough. The fact that it is 5X more powerful than the Xbox 360 means games like Halo and Gears are going to play and look fantastic.

I think PS4 and Xbox One are purely catering to separate, yet sometimes overlapping, audiences.

Xbox One will be fine for 360 owners, and will likely have a rich, competitive online experience. I'll be picking one up when Gears 4 and Halo 5 roll around :)

PS4, on the other hand, will be fine for GAMERS. Not that Xbox owners are not gamers, but that 'GAMERS' are a niche of people who solely want the most capable hardware available to them. This is the category I fall under.

It isn't that I have a problem with Kinect, which I don't, and it certainly isn't that I wouldn't enjoy the Xbox One, because I would. It is simply because I have a finite budget, and find myself trying to immerse myself in single player campaigns, which in my opinion is Sony's strong suit. This is why I will be picking up PS4 FIRST, but not the only console I will be picking up in the long run.

I play single player about 80% of the time. However, I do enjoy competitive multiplayer from time to time, especially when I have a few friends to collaborate with. There's just something nice about competition.

For 360 owners, I feel like they play competitively 75% of the time, and maybe this is just my perception, but I feel like this is why Xbox One would suit them perfectly.

I'm gravitating toward my own personal gaming niche (single player), which is why I WISH that I could say Xbox One has nothing to offer me, but that simply isn't true. This is also why I'm holding off a little while for Xbox, because I'm waiting for the right competitive game to dip my toes into.

Xbox One is a very capable piece of hardware. Sure, PS4 may have the edge over it, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is more FUN.

There are plenty of people who will have more fun on Xbox One than PS4, and visa verse.

I'm happy for you Xbox guys, and I hope you enjoy XBL, Party Chat, and all the other great experiences that are going to make games like Titanfall the funnest thing ever.

Well, this should get ugly fast.

Nonsense, I'm sure every member here will react to this article in a non-fanboyish trolling manner!

Is there a difference between fanboyish trolling and non-fanboyish trolling?

i would think trolling is trolling no matter who does it.

Ill wait to pick up an x1 until I see how microsoft treats its consumers later down the road and see if they continue supporting the console with exclusives for core gamers unlike the 360. If they do then I will be picking up one of those beasts down the road

Electric-flamingo1767d ago

That is a logical statement. Very good redemption.

denawayne1767d ago

I was at Comic Con on Sunday. I can definitely say that both systems' controllers felt really comfortable. Unfortunately both games on display, Knack and Ryse, were underwhelming.

xReDeMpTiOnx1767d ago

Knack isn't my cup of tea but it will appeal to some. And ryse looks more eye candy than anything filled with way too much qte but I will withhold full judgment until I can play it at a buddies house when it releases.

denawayne1767d ago

If you read the article, it states that Ryse is not full of QTEs. In fact they are optional. I can attest to this as I kept doing the same as the author and would just move on to the next enemy without going through the QTE animation. I also found out from the PR rep that the game will use the Kinect but you cannot play the entire game with just the Kinect.

Im pretty much a sony die hard fan but goodluck to those who buy x1 both systems will have great games but only one can be a winner

ricochetmg1767d ago

Or spend that money on one good console .
