Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Interview: PS4 Version Details, Sales Expectations, and More

"Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag went from being an interesting and unexpected direction in the franchise following the conclusion of Assassin's Creed III to one of the biggest releases of the year when it comes out on October 29th in North America and November 1st in Europe. Despite the release of several other big-budget open world adventure titles, especially Ubisoft's own Watch_Dogs, the team at Ubisoft is holding strong on making Black Flag a compelling experience."

"Ravi Sinha: Assassin’s Creed IV is also confirmed for the Xbox One. Is this version going to be any different from the PS4 one?

Jean Guesdon: Nothing we can confirm at the moment."

Interesting choice of words. I would have expected Jean so come right out and say "both versions will be the same". However, saying that would most likely anger a lot of Sony fans. Admittedly, I would be a little annoyed, knowing how much more powerful the PS4 is compared to the X1.

But then of course he can't say 'PS4 version will be graphically superior' for obvious reasons. And I think this is a real shame. I think in an event like this a majority of MS fans are mature enough to say 'The PS4 is more powerful, it only makes sense it gets a slightly more graphically intensive game. We'll still get the same amazing experience on the X1'.

It's only the vocal minority fanboys that would be up in arms by something that makes sense.

In the end Jean played it safe and simply didn't really answer the question.

In any case, I'll be expecting the graphics to be much the same between PS4 and X1 with maybe the former possibly having a more solid frame rate and maybe less screen tearing. But after the first year of next gen I think we'll start to see quite a difference. At least I hope developers will take advantage of the extra power, even if that only means extra frames, longer draw distances, more enemies on screen, etc.

Time will tell.

A man gets if devs don't want to add stuff to the PS4 version or increase resolution. A man would actually prefer that the devs be limited in what they do so that a man can enjoy something easy like a very stable 60fps on an otherwise copied game. PC games make this an adjustable setting so it should be an easy thing to change from PS4 to Xbone. Just up the FPS it makes a huge difference for a man.

"Graphics, obviously, will be improved to give you a more immersive feeling: leaves and plants move with the wind, waves feel even more lifelike, sails billow in the wind, etc. Other than that, we do support the PS4 touchpad and Vita Remote Play, which means you will be able to play AC4 on your Vita through your PS4."

Superior version confirmed!

Ubisoft are being stupid constantly talking up ps4 ?? wiiu and xbox1 can easily match ps4 graphics this early in it's life, maybe in 3 or 4 years ps4 will start to look a little better,RAM isn't going to make ps4 superior in graphics, graphics can only be as good as your gpu allows, lots of RAM just allows for less compression ???It's like me saying wiiu's edram section gives it the edge,to be fair it does,16MB edram gives you native 1080p look it up,wiiu has 32MB/64MB.

Exclusive games on all 3 consoles will be very close,if ps4 had 2 gtx gpu's then yes it would squash wiiu and xbox1,but as far as graphic detail goes all 3 will be very close, and i'm not going to compare multiplat games because any multiplat game this early in the nextgen race when devs still need time to get the most out of the new hardware, that claim 1 console can look better is just a load of rubbish, the only way ps4 could look better on a multiplat game is if the devs do it on purpose,so i wont be measuring which console has the best graphics off 3rd party multiplat games it's way too iffy,i'll measure the best graphics off X,Killzone,Forza,Zelda,Drivecl ub,Second son,Halo,ect.......

I think they've got the screen tearing issue down. AC3 didn't really have any.

Reading that made me think that Ravi is being so coy, diplomatic, and politically correct, which for his pocketbook, is the right thing to do. At some point I'm sure (in his mind) he wanted to bust out and say, "yes, yes this is going to be better on ______ and so are these wind effects, etc.." but sadly and much to our dismay, he cannot do that.

Not to worry, I know the Lens of Truth won't let us down. :P

The interviewer repeatedly loads his questions in reference with Playstation 4, despite Jean Guesdon repeatedly answering platform neutral.

"Ravi Sinha: What advantages has the PlayStation 4 presented in comparison to developing for other consoles? Like Watch_Dogs, did the next generation hardware present an option to expand on the gameplay, which would be reflected in the current gen versions?

Jean Guesdon: We are very open about the fact that we are a cross-gen title. This means that we have to develop for both current-gen and next-gen platforms. This obviously means that we had to do a lot of lateral thinking, but the reward is that features that we developed for Next-Gen ended up becoming feasible on current-gen. One example is the companion app: this was at first an exclusively next gen feature but it became such an integral part of our game, such a cool feature, that we put in the effort to make it available for everyone. So yes, in this sense, next gen really shaped some aspects of the game that you can experience across all platforms.

Ravi Sinha: We recently came to know that PS4 allows better wind simulation in other Ubisoft games like Watch_Dogs. Since ACIV has this similar open world feel to it as well, do you think we will see something similar in Assassins Creed IV?

Jean Guesdon: You will definitely feel the effects of our tropical storms, and of the wind blowing in your sails. That is what I was referring to when I was saying that the improved graphics helped us increase immersion. Wind is such an important element in the pirate fantasy that we made sure a lot of thought was put behind its representations in our game."

Ravi keeps throwing PS4 into the questions, and Jean just keeps dodging without any specific mention of PS4.

he's not really allowed to say anything or MS would be pissed at Ubi. Can't show favor to one console over the other when you've built a game for both unfortunately. A man would think %50 more GPU power would mean at least better or more stable FPS on PS4 version even if they don't try to push it specifically it'll just run better with PS4 not being pushed. A man hopes that FPS will be where devs do this as that shouldn't piss off MS too much considering it would be kinda under the hood.

Very true there are alot of articles on here that twist words and make something look like how the author wants it ??? ive read lots of misleading articles like this one where ubisoft are saying that nextgen version are more immersive ect meaning all 3,yet this site turns it into a ps4 specific article like they only meant ps4 when its not the case ???
