FOX Engine vs CryEngine 3 - Konami's Office Room Recreated In CryEngine 3

DSOGaming writes: "Back in May, Konami showcased the power of its FOX Engine by recreating one of its office rooms in it. That room made a lot of heads turn, and it’s time now to see whether CryEngine 3 is capable of producing such visuals." (Cryengine 3, Fox Engine, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Graphics have never been Crytek's weakness.
zerocrossing  +   592d ago | Well said
Making games look pretty is no longer an issue, it's making them worth playing that's the problem now.

Gonna have to disagree with you guys. The story in crysis 2&3 was average at best. But the story in the first was great! Also the gameplay in 1&3 is awesome. It's open world and you can run in and just punch everyons in the face, pick up a tree/pole and destroy them, be stealthy with cloack, or just shoot them regularly with armor. And those are just examples. A skilled player mixes the abilities to take out the enemies swiftly. It's too bad people just see the face value: oh its pretty. Personally crysis going to the city was a mistake. Too linear, even though 3 attempted to open up.
OcelotRigz  +   592d ago
Very well said zerocrossing.

For me Crytek worry too much about the textures instead of gameplay. Like the ridiculous "60%" remark and how graphics drive gameplay. So many games prove them wrong on that front.

Gameplay is and always the hook, everything else supplements it. And now with the little guy (indies) having more opportunities than ever to
get their games out there, the scene is getting crowded, the backlog is getting bigger, so the games that are worthplaying are the ones you spend time and money on.
zerocrossing  +   592d ago

actually I never criticised Crysis, I had heard that many thought 2 & 3 were disappointing though. All I meant was that great graphics are pretty much the norm now but they mean nothing if the gameplay is lacking, and that goes for every game.

At least we know mgs5 is going to be amazing. :)

Point to Konami.
plaZeHD  +   592d ago
Agreed. I think only Rockstar and Naughty Dog are pushing things other than graphics with astonishing quality.
abzdine  +   592d ago
i dont know but i am not impressed, especially not by the textures around the corners and this is a tech that's supposed to be so photorealistic.
take a look at the chair even the material looks bad

The best tech i have ever seen is the Dark Sorcerer by quanticdream. Now that's what i called a monster next-gen engine.

True that, but there are some lazy ass Devs who get by with less than spectacular graphics and gameplay, and will continue to do so for as long as they can sell their games on the name alone. Everybody knows who they are....

Isn't this title misleading?

It sounds like the office was recreated in CE3

I agree. Crytek for me are great at making things look pretty but everything else seems to fall by the wayside

At the article: Office stuff is fairly easy to replicate(man made shapes....) but they have done well with the natural environment (a lot harder to do)
SpitFireAce85  +   592d ago
I agree lets hope they can improve on the story aspect and maybe a bit on multiplayer..I also want to see what they can do with homefront 2 since i think the bought the Ip.
Batzi  +   592d ago
It is their strength and weakness. Graphics is all they care about, their games suck. FOX Engine is being used to create MGSV and any Metal Gear Solid game beats any game Crytek did when it comes to storyline and gameplay.
Koyes  +   592d ago
Well, MGS beats everything in terms of storyline and gameplay, not just Crytek ;)
elhebbo16  +   592d ago
@Koyes Im sorry but that is BS. MGS games are definitely up there when it comes to storyline/gameplay, but I could name a hand full of games who's storyline/gameplay is as good or even better than any MGS game. TLoU

Koyes  +   592d ago
Stop mentioning tLoU in every damn thing. It's a good game, nothing more. MGS is a experience you will not find anywhere else and cannot be compared too, no matter how deep your nose is buried in ND's arse. ND are very good, but far from the best. Kojima san, amongst others, prove that

showtimefolks  +   592d ago
i still take a Kojima game or crytek's

graphics can only take you so far, now they own the darksiders IP, so make a darksiders game use crytek's new engine and than we will talk
Mr-SellJack  +   592d ago
Hate it when people judge gfx only if it's pretty it's like a fake mona lisa looks great in the outside but doesn't have nearly the same charm as the official one.gfx are everything in a game except story, replay value, audio and gameplay.impressive A.I,design structure, artistic design, capturing the atmosphere e.t.c
MYSTERIO360  +   592d ago
The cryengine truly looks amazing, glad Sony acquired the tech so well be seeming more of it on next gen games.

XtraTrstrL  +   592d ago
The Fox Engine office looked more believable. Crytek's is very good too though, but doesn't look quite as photorealistic.
Mrmagnumman357  +   592d ago
You know this was made by a modder right ? I actually disagree with your comment as well.
DeadlyFire  +   592d ago
Modders typically push beyond developer's graphics. Look at GTAIV and Skyrim graphics mods.

Your claim a modder can't do as well as a developer is not entirely truthful.
NioRide  +   592d ago
Very meh attempt by the looks of it.

It just looks like a upscaled CSGO office.

YAAAAAAAWWWNN. Wake me up when MGS 5 is out, oh or when they make an amazing game on ANY of the Cryengines since Far Cry 1.
mgszelda1  +   592d ago
To me Cry Engine is too fantasy as far as its lighting looks, if we r going for realistic. Both r beautiful engines. It is simply a matter of how the games that get made with them utilize them.
I'm assuming the cry engine will get used in more franchises than the Fox engine though.
tubers  +   592d ago
CryEngine (2/3) looks "fantasy" as far as lighting looks?

Every other engine must have been on a totally different realm of fiction then.
Mr-SellJack  +   592d ago
Fox engine wins hands down overall photorealism, technical aspect, handled by more experienced and better devs all around, easy to port games
Bonerboy  +   592d ago
Based on what sources exactly?
Mr-SellJack  +   592d ago
More experienced and better devs have better engines, many included including myself encountered several bug and glitches I didn't finish crysis 2 free on ps plus due to their crappy handling of games in the technical aspect,it occurs right after u defeat the pinger,u r asked to regroup and so I did but the mission didn't progress!i restarted the checkpoint a lot.crytek sucks at making the small details, blood splatter stable in the air, very low and horrible sets of enemies that is sacrificed for more but dumb a.i,blue lasers when shooting seriously?melee sucks ass 20 fps, copied a lot of stuff and added nothing new in gameplay that we've never seem b4 especially since it's an fps which made it a snore fest would prefer cod vita, haze, battle la,doom, good ol counter strike and nearly every fps over their current games.they're that generic

I've come to the realization that as long as it's pretty (doesn't need hella realistic textures) and plays smooth as eggs, I'm good. I used to be a graphics whore, but kept getting disappointed with boring gameplay. After playing games Last of Us and Rayman Origins, I believe the PS3 could be relevant for another 5 years.... Not that I'm going to wait that long lol

Long story short, smooth gameplay trumps graphics.
kingPoS  +   592d ago
You hit the nail right on the head! If the gameplay doesn't own up then means too much was put into FX.

...Or you could say that programers aren't paid to write game plot & storylines.... or are they???

Great stuff! I've really been looking forward to a "Boardroom Simulator."
I've been dying to ream out Jackson for getting those investor reports out the door late...again. And that god damned incompetent Finklestein for screwing up the numbers on the annual inventory. And that slut Cheryl for threatening to tell my wife unless I gave her a raise! Makes my blood boil. Heads are gonna roll!!!

1st DLC: A box of donuts and styrofoam coffee cups...and one 12g shotgun.

I hope there will be a 'suicide finale' option available. I mean everything is so pristine and white! It's perfect really. Ooooo makes me all a tingle just thinking about it all.

This was made by a modder, not Crytek. As a CE3 modder myself, I can confirm this. Find "gametime" at Crydev to see the rest of his work.

Since the site here didn't do it, here's the fox engine one: http://gematsu.com/2012/03/... I'd say the Fox engine one has it beat in lighting. Though the modder did a better job recreating the chairs around the table.

Only one problem, crysis runs terrible.. the first one took 2-3 years to be playable when a graphics card came out capable of running it 60+fps.

On release you're lucky to get like 30-40fps average frame rate which really sucks if you check out performance graphs. It's like they don't even optimise the games well.

That's why i never bother with those games, plus it's all flashy graphics over game play.

Imagine a photo-realistic ame powered by this engine.. As we all know MGSV visual is really spectacular, I'm impressed.
MuhammadJA  +   592d ago
A lot of you are failing to realize that great graphics help in the immersion of a game or allow for great gameplay. If TLoU(I chose TLoU because it has great graphics and gameplay) has PS2 graphics, would anyone even play it?
Hitman0769  +   592d ago
well thats just slightly disrespectful > _ <
claudionmc  +   591d ago
For me, Ryse has this kind of issue... very good graphics but that's it.

In my personal opinion, the gamer industry must enhance the development of games with quality in gameplay much more than the graphics

Office renders only impress noobs and fanboys. They're meaningless in real gameplay. Just look at how good MGS4 cutscenes look vs the real game.
RegorL  +   591d ago

ATi_Elite  +   591d ago
Rendering offices....how CHEESY!

Crytek uses Crysis as a Demo for it's CryEngine and StarCitizen is gonna push the CryEngien 3 to new levels!

Crytek is better at Game Engine making than game making.

we need a good game using the FoxEngine with not a lot of cut scenes.
Modestmex  +   591d ago
Crysis 1 and warhead were best crysisiss!! just saying!
