DSOGaming writes: "Back in May, Konami showcased the power of its FOX Engine by recreating one of its office rooms in it. That room made a lot of heads turn, and it’s time now to see whether CryEngine 3 is capable of producing such visuals."
Graphics have never been Crytek's weakness.
Making games look pretty is no longer an issue, it's making them worth playing that's the problem now.
Gonna have to disagree with you guys. The story in crysis 2&3 was average at best. But the story in the first was great! Also the gameplay in 1&3 is awesome. It's open world and you can run in and just punch everyons in the face, pick up a tree/pole and destroy them, be stealthy with cloack, or just shoot them regularly with armor. And those are just examples. A skilled player mixes the abilities to take out the enemies swiftly. It's too bad people just see the face value: oh its pretty. Personally crysis going to the city was a mistake. Too linear, even though 3 attempted to open up.
Very well said zerocrossing. For me Crytek worry too much about the textures instead of gameplay. Like the ridiculous "60%" remark and how graphics drive gameplay. So many games prove them wrong on that front. Gameplay is and always the hook, everything else supplements it. And now with the little guy (indies) having more opportunities than ever to get their games out there, the scene is getting crowded, the backlog is getting bigger, so the games that are worthplaying are the ones you spend time and money on.
@dcj0524 actually I never criticised Crysis, I had heard that many thought 2 & 3 were disappointing though. All I meant was that great graphics are pretty much the norm now but they mean nothing if the gameplay is lacking, and that goes for every game.
At least we know mgs5 is going to be amazing. :)
Point to Konami.
Agreed. I think only Rockstar and Naughty Dog are pushing things other than graphics with astonishing quality.
i dont know but i am not impressed, especially not by the textures around the corners and this is a tech that's supposed to be so photorealistic. take a look at the chair even the material looks bad http://www.dsogaming.com/wp... The best tech i have ever seen is the Dark Sorcerer by quanticdream. Now that's what i called a monster next-gen engine.
True that, but there are some lazy ass Devs who get by with less than spectacular graphics and gameplay, and will continue to do so for as long as they can sell their games on the name alone. Everybody knows who they are....
Isn't this title misleading? It sounds like the office was recreated in CE3 " Konami's Office Room Recreated In CryEngine 3 " Nope. Just a few pictures of a tank after the Fox Engine showcase
I agree. Crytek for me are great at making things look pretty but everything else seems to fall by the wayside At the article: Office stuff is fairly easy to replicate(man made shapes....) but they have done well with the natural environment (a lot harder to do)
I agree lets hope they can improve on the story aspect and maybe a bit on multiplayer..I also want to see what they can do with homefront 2 since i think the bought the Ip.
It is their strength and weakness. Graphics is all they care about, their games suck. FOX Engine is being used to create MGSV and any Metal Gear Solid game beats any game Crytek did when it comes to storyline and gameplay.
Well, MGS beats everything in terms of storyline and gameplay, not just Crytek ;)
@Koyes Im sorry but that is BS. MGS games are definitely up there when it comes to storyline/gameplay, but I could name a hand full of games who's storyline/gameplay is as good or even better than any MGS game. TLoU
Stop mentioning tLoU in every damn thing. It's a good game, nothing more. MGS is a experience you will not find anywhere else and cannot be compared too, no matter how deep your nose is buried in ND's arse. ND are very good, but far from the best. Kojima san, amongst others, prove that
Crytek needs to hire Ken Levine for one game...just one...
Unfortunately KL has gone back to movies.
He's still going to be working on games sync90.
but there gameplay, lol....
but you're grammar, lol....
"but you're grammar," -_- Are you saying that he is grammar?
But gameplay has......Go figure.
Yeah, too bad they don't have the gameplay aspect down yet.
i still take a Kojima game or crytek's graphics can only take you so far, now they own the darksiders IP, so make a darksiders game use crytek's new engine and than we will talk
Hate it when people judge gfx only if it's pretty it's like a fake mona lisa looks great in the outside but doesn't have nearly the same charm as the official one.gfx are everything in a game except story, replay value, audio and gameplay.impressive A.I,design structure, artistic design, capturing the atmosphere e.t.c
The cryengine truly looks amazing, glad Sony acquired the tech so well be seeming more of it on next gen games.
both engines can give amazing gfx but which company give a better experience, i think we all know cannot wait for MGS 5 and crytek if u can, please release crysis trilogy for xbox one and ps4 that have pc gfx and 60 fps
dont you think its too early for crysis HD remake's?
The Fox Engine office looked more believable. Crytek's is very good too though, but doesn't look quite as photorealistic.
You know this was made by a modder right ? I actually disagree with your comment as well.
Modders typically push beyond developer's graphics. Look at GTAIV and Skyrim graphics mods. Your claim a modder can't do as well as a developer is not entirely truthful.
