Nintendo released Pikmin 3 in Japan last week, and the game sold 92,720 copies in its first week. That’s more than Pikmin 1 sold in its first week, but far less than Pikmin 2.
"Nintendo released Pikmin 3 in Japan last week, and the game sold 92,720 copies in its first week. That’s more than Pikmin 1 sold in its first week, but far less than Pikmin 2." Pikmin 2 came out in 2004, 3 years after the GC was out on the market. It sold a lot more cause it launched on a system with a higher install base. The Wii U is still around 4 mil, so 92,000 in 2 days is really freakin good.
also, just to add, Pikmin 2 had about 4 days on it's first week. Pikmin three's record of 92K+ is only for 2 days. so taking into account the sales of on a per days basis, Pikmin 2 would have sold about 40K/day, while Pikmin 3 is 45K+/day. another thing to consider is that digital download and sales are not accounted for here. so in effect, Pikmin 3 may have outsold Pikmin 2, and we'll know more about it's performance in the coming weeks.
Exactly. The GC already had an established base when Pikmin 2 came out. And this was a 2-day period. It's not comparable and these numbers are more impressive, if anything, when you consider these facts. Just another case of bad journalism in gaming, I guess. Half-truths missing important details that throw the whole thing off.
Don't forget eShop something that isn't tracked.
Can't wait to get my hands on this game. =D
Why did the article leave out the 2 days part. Is it they want to give a negative perception.
