In Defense of: Mobile Platforms

"Angry Birds. Candy Crush. Robot Unicorn Attack. Fun games in their own right. But are smartphones and tablets limited to bright, cartoonish games with little to no depth? Or is there potential for these mobile devices to be platforms for serious gamers?" (Android, iPad, iPhone, Mobile)

FINAL FANTASY IV on Mobile Phone is Great.

I really enjoy mobile games. Some are more suited to mobile gaming than others. I do spend equal amounts of time on mobile games than I do on console games. I just by what is best suited for each platform. For instance I do not buy a shooting game for my mobile. I buy touch screen physics based puzzles/generic puzzle/old school games for it. On my console I do not buy the games that are more suited for mobile games

This. I've always said it's not the platform but the types of games that appear on it are the real issue. I just returned from vacation and enjoyed playing plants vs zombies while at night on my phone. But it could be a viable avenue for even bigger, more traditional games like sRPGs and RTSs too. I'd love to re-play Ogre Tactics in HD with touch screen controls. Sad thing is these games could be ported over to both the Vita and the 3DS with relative ease; giving these devs a huge user base. (Instead I get an old PSP version with blurry textures and HUDs)

There's a reason why mobile games are so cheap... they're all crap.

My idea of mobile gaming is dedicated handelds like the Vita and 3DS; the only phone/tablet game that I truly like is The Pinball Arcade, everything else feels like a gimped game with compromised controls.
