Unified 3DS/Wii U eShop Update Leaked

Youtube user Andreas Babouris was browsing the 3DS eShop this week when he suddenly access a new version of the 3DS eShop that has a unified online store for Wii U and 3DS games. In the video you can see there are categories for Wii U games and demos although when you click on them and error appears. (3DS, Nintendo, Wii U)

Gimme. And a game transfer system would be awesome too.

So is this a full on thing like having the same account that can be use on both systems like the ps3 and the vita? If so than BRING IT ON, a unified account system is one of the biggest features I want.

I want to play earthbound on my 3ds!

I whole heartedly agree. I have been an avid proponent of Nintendo bringing their network up to par with the others, and this would be a huge step. Unified NN account across platforms with a cross-buy feature, and some sort of accomplishment system would be huge for Nintendo. We'll see I guess.

Really hope this is true I have a few Wii Virtual Console games I would love to play on my 3DS.

Oh god that online shop looks/sounds horrible

Would it have killed Nintendo to hire competent designers?

This was basically a glitch. He accessed something that wasn't finished, something that he wasn't even supposed to be able to access. You really think that this was what the final thing looks like?

I'm not even talking about that, I already know that it was incomplete. I was referring to the entire ugly design/background music of Nintendos online store. It's pathetic and eye-wrenching for 2013 standards

Take it a step further. Let me play physical 3DS games on my WiiU, and I'll BUY ONE!
kalkano  +   679d ago
Is there a reason why people are so AGAINST that idea? I fail to see a negative.
PopRocks359  +   679d ago
I personally didn't disagree. I'd love to have a 3DS player on Wii U. It'd make for a great secondary feature. The single player games I own, like Kid Icarus for instance, would be perfect for TV use. And the Wii U gamepad can be used as the bottom screen as well as a circle pad pro.

Woah there.. Are we all reading the same thing here? This doesn't mean cross-buy or playing 3DS games on Wii U or vice versa. It is just a merged shop like the PS3 has where you can view and probably download 3DS games on your Wii U and transfer them to 3DS or whatever like with the PS Vita.

Seeing how different the Wii U and 3DS hardware are and even on a performance level it makes no sense they would ever have cross-buy. VC is pretty limited as it stands, so I really can't imagine them just adding 3DS titles to be play on the Wii U. I don't even think most Wii games are even capable of running on the 3DS.

That is their bread and butter right now. They aren't going to compromise 3DS sales just to put 3DS games on the Wii U. Maybe with their next handheld that is a possibility when the 3DS isn't really used anymore, then you might see them on Wii U.

I once read a rumor that suggested Nintendo would implement a system that would make it so that, for example, say you have Mega Man 2 on Wii U VC but not on 3DS. The rumor suggested that with the account system, you could actually pay $1 and get the game on your 3DS. It said nothing about putting 3DS exclusives on Wii U, but rather it spoke mostly about VC games that happen to be on both systems.

Of course, strictly a rumor. I read it a month or two ago so as of right now it's probably untrue. But this is what I would hope Nintendo does once this update is live. It's a much better alternative than paying full price for a game I already own.

I can completely see that and it could easily be a real possibility that may be true. I am just saying some here expecting Wii games to work on 3DS or 3DS game to be working on Wii U doesn't add up.

Oh yea and the cross-buy just don't see that happening right now either.

If anything it will be a transfer thing like how it is on PS3 or like you said smaller titles the 3DS can handle off of VC on Wii U can be playable.

Sorry for the editing. I really worded this poorly so I had to make it more readable.

I agree but an update where you can transfer any VC game between 3ds and Wii U would be great.

And people say Nintendo is the innovator of everything... They took an idea from Sony, and incorporating it into their own network now. That's good. They're finally learning what an "Internet" is, and how greatly it now affects gaming.

Still, I bet they're gonna sell SSB3DS and SSBU separately. If they go PSASBR's way, and give you the 3DS version for free when you get the Wii U version, I'll pay $60 for the Wii U version, even though I don't have, and don't plan to get a Wii U anytime soon.
deafdani  +   679d ago
That's not going to happen. Wii U's Smash and 3DS's Smash are two different games, they only share the character roster. So no, Nintendo will sell them separately.
sk1234  +   679d ago
To be honest I'd just prefer the fucking prices to be a lot cheaper; retailers sell games a lot cheaper so I'm sure digital software would be a lot less as it does not include a manual or the cartridge itself but NO, Nintendo just wants the MONEY. Prices are generally around £10-15 more in the eShop, what's the point?

Its weird how for every major change in online software for Nintendo and the Wii U/3ds, it gets leaked like this. But they always seem to be pretty cool leaks that show that the features are literally about to be implemented world wide. Kinda like a sneak peak from a company that tends to be so secretive that they sneak released Earthbound and announced it afterword. Literally everyone I knew irl and on the internet said "WHAT!?" when they found out. lol.

i'm pretty sure this is gonna happen soon, if not within the year, then soon. there have already been rumors of the Miiverse coming to 3DS and NNID by end of the year, so this must be part of it.

if i remember correctly, i think it was yesterday when Nintendo announced that they are having some technical difficulties in the eShop for all their platforms and have temporarily disabled access. perhaps they were testing this yesterday and someone "forgot" to disable public access, and it just so happened that the person above was accessing it. after a while the 3DS eShop actually returned to "normal", and when I checked, i did notice that the UI was somehow updated (similar to above, but without the Wii U games).
