Nintendo 3DS Outselling Both PS3 and Xbox 360 in the UK

Nintendo UK’s head of consumer marketing James Honeywell says that the Nintendo 3DS is comfortably outselling the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 week-by-week in the United Kingdom. The spike in hardware sales can be attributed to a number of big named titles for the platform including Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Fire Emblem Awakening. The portable has been trending ahead of both the platforms over the last three months. (3DS, Microsoft, Nintendo, PS3, Sony, Xbox 360)

Not surprising considering most people already have PS3s and 360s and the 3DS is a fairly recent handheld console.

Well, pokemon is coming out soon, isn't it?

Or it is simply summer holiday season and a 3DS is a good choice for travelling.

Handheld vs Home console. Comparing apples with oranges right there....are we that desperate to spin some positive Nintendo news?

Money is money. It can come form a handheld or a home console but it's all the same to a business. Nintendo makes money on 3DS but loses money on Wii U while Sony makes money on PS3 and loses money on Vita. It's all relative.

yet when negative Nintendo news comes people flock to it. Anything negative about the PS4 and it's a riot.

So when Sony fanboys compare Vita's sales to Wii U, it's okay. Now when 3DS is #1, it's suddenly apples and oranges.

Or we could be that desperate to just ignore it...

I still think the 3DS is a kids-centered console with few decent games (IMO)

Kids-centered? It's for everyone.

I never understand sales figures that compare things like this. This reminds me of articles that for instance, report a game like Last of Us beating out Man of Steel's opening weekend. Last of Us costs $60 a pop. A movie ticket costs anywhere up to $20.
