Forza 5 will require a one-time online check, much like the Xbox One system itself. Leviathyn looks at why this is, how it came to be and why we could see more situations like this.
I feel sorry for the people who buy the xbox one, thinking they can play it straight out of the box. Yes a majority of people in the world have internet now days...but not everyone. And that small percentage of people w/o internet access is still a large number.
I expect retailers like GameStop to offer a service to allow for the one time connection to get the update, if you buy the console or game from them of course.
Well, think about this: it's widely accepted that the majority of FPS players favor the XBOX360. The majority of those games are multiplayer. Do you really think that all of those gamers are playing those games offline? That's nearly 60 million gamers just for COD.
I know xbox has made itself the fps player's choice over all. But I speek for people who don't buy an xbox for fps. When 360 first came out, I didn't buy because of COD3. I bought it because I like the way King kong looked on it compared to the gamecube version. My point is, if you become arrogant as a company, and think that you can survive off of fps players alone and alienate every one else, you will suffer. Don't need xbox to have a great fps experience any more.
Interesting point in the article. MS games being broken or glitchy or certain games don't function properly due to the policy reversal. That's why we have that one time internet check in to not only give people free DLC but possibly take away some extra online infrastructural features that was implemented behind DRM. Maybe launch windows for MS games will require a one time checkin in just like the X1? regardless the case is I want the games to look great and play well in the console.
I REALLY wish they hadn't flip flopped. I know I'm outnumbered here, but I couldn't give two shits about DRM. I liked the always online idea. I hope everyone is proud of themselves.
Then stay online and buy digital.
I plan to, but I'm screwed out of some neat features now because everyone got their panties in a bunch over nothing.
This spybox is only really an issue for US citizens. A large chunk of Europe and Asia are no launch....is it due to unstable/lack of Internet or the fact that most these countries won't allow this kinect device to be functional as MS currently have it? Regardless, almost all the features MS had before DRM flip flop....is perfectly fine with no DRM. But MS dumped it. Why? I can only think of two connected reasons. One they weren't fleshed out and understood by MS themselves & they were meant to generate money for MS with DRM as a catalyst forcing the policies. Either way I can't fathom how anyone can defend MS on gaming.
