PS3's life continues.

... and will for at least another 4 years.

The PS3 is just an amazing piece of hardware. I mean after all these years it just keeps getting better and better. I mean has anyone see Watchdogs? That game could palss for a next gen game. It's all about the devs and how much time that they are willing to put into the games dev. When devs put in the effort they get spectacular results from the power of the ps3. This is a great time to be a gamer period.

May mgs5 come into the playstation conversation?

@mewhy32 I agree about the ps3's hardware being great! Im typing this comment on my tablet because my son is playing uncharted 3 online, then its my turn to play the last of us online, then some Killzone 3 online. What im getting at is My ps3 has been on at least 6hours a day everyday since I got it at launch(60G), very impressive to say the least!

Once they drop it down to 150$ or 199$ it will sell like crazy just like the ps2 before it. There is still plenty of life and plenty support for it.

I'm not certain about that to be honest. With the PS4 being cheaper than expected and looking as if it's taking off in a big way, I think a drop in price of the PS3 will more likely 'stabilise' sales and not necessarily 'boost' them. We might see a spike for a month, but then it'll drop to around the 130,000 - 140,000 it's at right now.

Just to clarify: 130,000 - 140,000 a week

You may be right about the main markets not increasing in sales BUT emerging markets will take advantage of the lower cost.

Yep, that's what I point out in my post below :)

hasnt peaked? in 8 years the console never peaked??? HMMMM i mean it still has life and tons of it but its seen its peak thats for sure. any product that peaks once the next iteration comes out has an issue

You're looking at it too subjectively. It may well (and probably will) drop in sales in the well known and often reported regions, such as America, Europe and Japan, but it will increase in less known regions; which then helps it retain the current average. Sony will probably target between 6 - 8 million PS3s a year for the next two or three years and then drop it to around 4 - 6 million after that.

The mighty PS2 looks on in parental like approval and somewhere in the world, Kutaragi-san sits with a wry smile and a twinkle in his eye. How far will it go?
