Sony on PS4, “a strong install base is very important” but PS3 “is here for some time to come”

OPM: Sony’s Computer Entertainment VP Feral Gara has said it’s important PS4 ensures a strong early install base, but also insists the PS3 still has some life in it despite a lack of 2014 games. (Fergal Gara, PS3, PS4, Sony)

I doubt the PS3 will ever be that cheap, the controller alone is sold for around $50.

Conversion rates aside I see the PS3 bottoming out at around $150-$170 an that's years from now.

I'm sticking with my Ps3 for a couple of years before I make a transition to the next gen. That will give time for a good large library of Ps4 games to build before I pick one up. Ps3 doesn't seem to be burning out at all for the time being, but flickering wildly with amazing exclusives.

It's really hard to keep up with all PS3 exclusive in this year alone.

I mean, on the 1st six month of 2013 PS3 users got Ni no Kuni, GoW Ascension, Atelier Ayesha, Guacamalee, Sly Cooper 4, and TloU (i knew i miss some tittles, feel free to add it). And after that, we got more exclusive such as Dragon's Crown, Tales of Xillia, Puppeteer, KH HD, FF X HD, Disgaea D2, Guided Fate Paradox, Rain, Jojo's Bizzare Adv All Star, and GT 6. All of this tittle totally rape my wallet. And we're still having AAA multiplats such as GTA V, AC 4, Watchdogs, Lords of Shadow 2, BF 4, Arkham Origins, and Killer is Dead.

What about next year? so far PS3 users also got exclusive like Tales of Symphonia HD, Tales of Xillia 2, and BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma. Also AAA multiplats MGS V, The Evil Within, and Dark Souls 2.

So i agree with you mate and will do the same too: sticking closely with my PS3 for one or two years before i made the jump to PS4.

All the games you mentioned can definitely keep a gamer satisfied for many months, while the developers get their feet wet with the new tech for next gen. Some of the next gen games are even multi-platform games. So there may not be much we're missing out on for those games, besides a visual upgrade.

Love my PS3, but I'm a no looking back kinda gamer. Once I get my hands on a PS4, my PS3 will collect dust. I just hope that Sony's continued support of the PS3 for several more years doesn't hold back development for the PS4.

I have a feeling that i wont stand playing on that old tech after trying the ps4. But i may keep it for GT6..

PS3 will easily sell over 100 million units, and perhaps over 110 million units by the time the PS4 becomes the main focus for Sony. I bet that third parties will keep a big focus on PS3 until the PS4 hits 25 million units sold.
