Next Super Street Fighter IV update (PS3, X360, PC, Arcade) to add 5 characters, 6 stages [Updated]

Update: Capcom's Yoshinori Ono revealed on Twitter one additional detail not mentioned at the EVO 2013 panel - the new update will come to arcades in Japan on top of the PS3, X360, and PC versions.

On top of five new characters, six new stages and balance changes to existing characters, Ono also tweeted that the new update will also add new mode(s) - although the word "mode" here might be a typo for "stages" since he did not mention the addition of new stages in the same tweet.

Original story: Elena, Rolento, Poison, Hugo, a fifth unannounced character, and six new stages will be added to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 via a US$15 DLC update early next year, Capcom has just announced at a panel presentation at the EVO 2013 fighting game championships in Las Vegas today.

The new updated version, which will be released for the PS3, X360 and PC versions of the fighter, and whose official name will only be announced tomorrow through a trailer right before the EVO 2013 grand finals for SSF4, is said to be compatible both with Super Street Fighter IV as well as SSF4 Arcade E... Ono said he wants to make a new Street Fighter Alpha game. Probably for next-gen consoles....

Only SF series i liked was Alpha. I just hope if he does he doesnt make them look nothing like SF4 characters. Ryu looked way better in UMvC3 than SF4.
Knushwood Butt  +   864d ago
I'd be up for a new Alpha game.
mattdillahunty  +   864d ago
people asking for Street Fighter V must not be very familiar with how Capcom handles the Street Fighter series. i wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see SFV for another five years or more.

not only is SFIV still an amazing (and balanced) game that is still receiving updates, but like wishingW3L said, there's a good chance there will also be an Alpha game as well.
Auron  +   864d ago
I'd hold off on buying SF Alpha until they come out with the super mega ultimate karate bruised edition hyper arcade version.

Actually, I'm STILL waiting for Capcom to release SF Alpha (PS1 Classic) on the Japanese PSN.

That, and Silent Hill.

Where are they???

I don't think this is news that people will bash Capcom over. You can't say there hasn't been countless reasons to get pissed at Capcom about if you were a fan of theirs before this gen. SSF4 itself was one of their few good decisions this gen imo. Even SSF4's costumes were a ripoff, but SSF4 itself was great and great value.

To do this update as a DLC instead of yet another disc version is a good decision for various reasons. And 5 characters, 6 stages and other additions is a really good value for $15. Unlike all of Capcom's other DLC which has been some of the worst value for dollar DLC this gen. This will be the first Capcom DLC I've bought since the SF4 complete alt pack went on sale for $6.50 on PSN like 3 years ago.

I'm actually shocked they aren't trying to get $30 or more to be honest. Maybe they're turning over a new leaf on their DLC pricing structure. LOL........yeah, right.
Baka-akaB  +   864d ago
Except they aready did earlier around here . ANd btw there is a full retail and digital version at 40$ . At least it will apparently give access to all previous dlc costumes

Yeah......I'll believe that when I see it. Meaning all the alternates included on this disc version you mention. I just don't see them doing it. If you remember their debut trailer of the original Super months before it even came out was just alternate costumes as though they were going to be right on the disc (well, they were really, but I mean free to use after maybe unlocking in-game).

If it's true and all the previous alts are in the game, I'd possibly consider the disc version even though I already owned the disc, and traded it in towards a new game when I got Super for free from Plus. I could use the HDD space anyway and the downloadable version doesn't seem to load as fast as the disc version. Perhaps I'll buy it again, we'll see.
Baka-akaB  +   864d ago
It's not something to believe it's confirmed , there will be a full version at around 40$ in retail and digital versions and at least one of those will feature all the costume alt . Then you got preorders with exclusive costumes designed by Udon studios .
Foxgod  +   864d ago
´Sounds good, the more the merrier, and hopefully the last character will be a fitting one.
The last character will likely be Asura considering they had SF DLC in Asura's Wrath and already have the splash art made.
Foxgod  +   864d ago
Yeah, seen others mention it too, i hope its not true.

It would kind of ruin the story.
Final fight characters are logical, as its set in the same time and universe as street fighter.

But asura isnt from the same time, and not from the same universe either.
Asure would fit in a VS fighting game, but not in Street fighter.

even if Asura could fit within the game, i think he would be a boring addition because he's too much like Akuma/Evil Ryu/Oni in that he's some sort of ascended powerful badass. i'm sure they would give him a really unique moveset to make up for it, though. and to be honest, i think that's the most likely choice so far.

i actually think Goutetsu would be an awesome addition. he's Akuma and Gouken's master, and not a lot is known about him. Akuma did kill him in the lore, but that doesn't really matter since Akuma also killed Gouken in the lore and they made up some silly excuse for how Gouken survived it. i don't think it's likely at all that we'll ever see him in a Street Fighter game, though.
Baka-akaB  +   864d ago
I dont see it ruining the story .. it already is ruined with stuff like Oni and evil ryu that only fit in alternate timelines and "what if" scenarios .

I wish to see Gotetsu one day , but quite frankly , there are enough shoto already for now , people already complain enough about them , despite most of them being completely different from each others
XtraTrstrL  +   864d ago
Blah, eventually they're gonna ruin SF like they did RE it seems. Just give them time, I'm glad Hugo 'n Elena are in there, but I already knew they'd be copying over SF x Tekken characters, with Hugo, Poison and Rolento. They're just taking the easy route and looking for new ways to milk a game they already have a solid base for. If SF5 is gonna take awhile because they are putting real effort into it to make it unique and solid, fine, if it's just being held back because they want to completely milk SF4 until there's no interest at all left in it, then it's corny.

And they already showed pics yesterday of Alex slamming Hugo on the temple stage. So, I'm gonna assume the 5th character is Alex.
Baka-akaB  +   864d ago
I dont see the point of them doing SF5 and leaving SF4 in the dust while we wait during the 3-4 minimum years of development on next gen .

However milked , their route is better for current fans of the serie ... it allow the current game to stay relevant and refresh its metagame , while waiting .

However greedy Capcom is , for the most part they still take care of their fighting games with some degree of polish and forethough . The easiest way would be to rush into an early 2014 SFV title that would be roughly the same imo .

Finally the remlaining character is confirmed as never seen in a street fighter game before . So it's probably something like Asura or Haggar if they reuse models

I hoping for a physical release, but it must have Karin in it...

Capcom should stop making so many edition of their game,it getting annoying. Guess the next one would be super street fighter iv final extreme alpha edition
rajman  +   864d ago
How is it annoying? From the reactions of 'actual' fans of the game...including myself, the majority of them are happy with the new update. The game is one of the most popular fighting games on the planet, so whats wrong with adding new content to it? especially when its new characters.
MrTrololo  +   864d ago
Yeah just let them keep milking Street Fighter IV n not released Street Fighter V. Seriously i prefer the gameplay in Street Fighter 3rd Strike over Street Fighter IV
arronax-1  +   863d ago
Because it's always seem to be the fans in this 'Stockholm Syndrome' moment initially screwing themselves over DLC skins or some silly gun.

Baka-akaB  +   864d ago
seriously it wasnt funn back in the 16 bits era , it still isnt :p .
MrTrololo  +   864d ago
Well if they don't released so many version of it. Then this jokes could be stop but no,Capcom is too arrogant to released a sequel of it
rajman  +   864d ago
Milking it? They're adding new content to a game that came out 4 years ago, if they were milking it, they would be releasing a whole new $60 game every year year aka COD.
Fans wanted new changes, characters and stages....and we got them.
TheBlackSmoke  +   864d ago
no... just...no

It should be auto ban for life for you using the super unfunny and cringe worthy long street fighter meme joke name.
Akuma2K  +   864d ago
When the PS4 was announced alot of Streetfighter gamers wanted SF5 right away on PS4 but Ono said it'll be awhile before we see a new Streetighter game.....i'm guessing 2015-2016 (it took around 3 years before we saw SF4 on PS3) i'm thinking it'll be the same with SF5 on PS4.
The_Truth_24_7  +   864d ago

I would love to see Master Goutetsu finally make his debut in a fighting game, capcom brought Gouken back so why not complete it by bringing Goutetsu back too.
Welcome2Die  +   864d ago
Okay let me tell you why this is a complete disrespect to SF4 fans.

They released a poll for fans to vote for their favorite characters in the SF world. The top 2 were Alex and Karin. They were not included in these 5 new characters.
4 of those characters are copy/paste from SFxT. Which 90% of the Street Fighter cast in that game was copy/paste from SF4. So in turn Capcom cut corners twice.

This is extremely disregarding of the fans of the game and anyone that pays 15 dollars for this update is telling Capcom that its okay what they are doing.
kagon01  +   864d ago
Agreed, I saw the video and got disappointed immediately...
Veneno  +   864d ago
You are so misleading. You leave out that there were all new characters brought into sf x tk that were not in sf4, oh and the other half of the character roster is all tekken characters which are completely new to the Street fighter mode of fighting. Also 80s boxart mega man, pacman, cole, toro kuro. You simply cannot argue that capcom brought new and a variety of characters. Also there will be an all completely new character never b3fore seen in the street fighter series. Although there's a chance it could still be a capcom character.

You just sound like a whiny brat.
Welcome2Die  +   864d ago
"You are so misleading. You leave out that there were all new characters brought into sf x tk that were not in sf4, oh and the other half of the character roster is all tekken characters which are completely new to the Street fighter mode of fighting."

Well yeah that was the point of the game, that still doesnt mean it was okay for them to recycle the cast from Sf4, especially when people requested new characters from previous SF games.

" Also 80s boxart mega man, pacman, cole, toro kuro"

Nobody wanted that Megaman. The rest were extra characters that nobody else wanted either. Im talking Street Fighter requested characters.

"You simply cannot argue that capcom brought new and a variety of characters. Also there will be an all completely new character never b3fore seen in the street fighter series. Although there's a chance it could still be a capcom character. "

They did... In SSF4. Now they are just recycling and charging for "New" content. and it was also just announced that the "new" stages were just copy pasted SFxT stages.

"You just sound like a whiny brat."

And you sound like a sheep. Its idiots like you that defend Crapcom for what they do that lets them keep doing this to the fans.

So its not ok for Capcom to to rerelease the same game with added content but its ok for you to reuse the same lame joke? I doubt you even play sd4 on a tournament level so maybe you should hush...give 1998 its joke back.

I like how they're taking all the decent content from cross tekken and adding it to SF4, I'll hold onto the thread of hope that the 5th character is Captain Commando though.
