Critics still coming to terms with Wii's "next-gen-ness"

Wii. Like it or not, the name and the console it represents arguably receive more favorable buzz than any other current game platform. Is it because of a departure from the traditional definition of next-generation gaming, the industry's fascination with its prospects, or that motion-controls with inferior graphics are in-fact a blast to play on a large scale? Hopefully by late November (post launch), we'll be closer to a definitive answer, but some are still obviously and understandably coming to terms with how Nintendo defines next-generation gaming:

The story is too old to be commented.

I no longer have any feelings towards Nintendo. My love of games has gone on to bigger and better things. I hope they do well, but I hope they will stop ripping people off with this overpriced crap they put out. Come on, get with the program. Nintendo is very smart, but I hate them for useing that as a weapon againts everyone. I am too smart to fall for their lame control system, or at least I know it's a overpriced gimmic, and may not hold up.

Xbox 360 and PS3 each have proven to me what next gen is about. I know it is more than glayplay fun, or graphics alone. Both of the true Next Gen systems are showing me, it is so much more. Nintendo is not showing any more than a new style of control. They are on a downhill sprial of yuck and getting worst.

I want 5.1+ surround sound, I want 720P+ visuals, I want better animation, I want awesome cintimatics, I want a harddrive, I want the extras, and yes, I do want awesome gameplay as well. PS3 and Xbox 360 are giving me this, and more this holiday season and onward.

I do know Nintendo has paved the way, with good before. I also see what Nintendo is doing good now. If it can bring more people into gameing, then the Wii will benifit all gamers in the long run. Especially if it keeps MS and Sony on their toes. I know many people see this advantage.

OK, you must know, I am intrested in Zelda and some BC games...big deal.

I sincerly hope that Nintendo and 3rd party publishers can change my mind...(Get to it!!)

" I am too smart to fall for their lame control system, or at least I know it's a overpriced gimmic, and may not hold up. "

i dont even care if it was an atari, with a new control system, i like the games they make.

yesterday i saw some great gfx in GT for the PS3......but the game, to me, is just not apealing...seeing the gameplay bored me out.

i dont need super GFX, im glad there is gonna be a new way of playing...after 16 years of gaming with a gamepad..im really looking forward to the controller. i dont even care if they make games over.

i didnt fel for it, i just know what i want and that nintendo makes great games and thats why im buying the console.

as you can see our opinions collide, but this is me and thats you.
but be a lil bit realistic, the non gamers....you think they know its ( atleast this is what you are saying) "overpriced"?
you think they know its a beefed up GCN?
to think of that allot of non gamers got them self a nintendo DS, then there is a big chance the wii will sell great and even have good games.

I can safely say that Nintendo will make good and even excellent use of their extras that they do have. Full creative use of the Wiimote, the built-in rumble, the built-in speaker, the Wii Channels, the weather updates, the huge back cagalog, the fun factor, ect.

BUT, it is still pushing/pulling for my $250, unless it, A: Has online multiplayer or co-op for many games. Including old school B: Has a more comforable controller for old school games. Seriously. C: Has more good games than just Zelda, and Mario.

I think the Nintendo Wii is actually more that just a party piece. I mean I honestly dont think I will play the console as much as my othere ones. But they do have a huge arcade coming with all my Nintendo favorites. I mean nobody can realy beat Nintendos arcade if they have all those old titles. Games like all your Mario, DK, Zeldas, Ness, Bubsy, and some more forgotten ones in the past. Hey who know they might upgrade the graphics some and alow you to play with your friends online on your old favorites.
But this is where I stop and think these games are not going to be free to play your going to have to pay a cost some way. Which makes me think is 250$ going to be where my money is going to go?
But to have where you can play the old games with your friends and enhancement in the graphics of your old favorites would be greeat but I'm not sure if there going to do that. I would probably be buying the arcade games more than the games made for the Nintendo Wii lol. I think thats worth 250$.
But I realy dont know what Nintendos realy doing, they dont realy release to much information about it and stand behind the curtains while Sony and MS is on stage. Thats what makes me hesitate to get the console right now.

what a load of crap QUOTE--> I want 5.1+ surround sound, I want 720P+ visuals, I want better animation, I want awesome cintimatics, I want a harddrive, I want the extras, and yes, I do want awesome gameplay as well. PS3 and Xbox 360 are giving me this, and more this holiday season and onward.
I already have all that and more in my pc which blows the 360 and ps3 away graphically, im looking something different like allot of other people who are all gonna buy the Wii, like can u honestly say u are looking forward to playing ports of older games with a few polished graphics cause that is realy all u will be getting it will be like going from xbox to xbox360 and ps1 to ps2 AGAIN how boring nothing innotavite at all same bland crappy game pad the lot, wii will be better for FPS games by far who cares about the upgrade in graphics cause it been seen and done b4 with PC'S

I think the attach rate on Wii will be much higher than 360/PS3 because a lot of people get turned off by fifteen controls in a game quickly.
I see Wii selling 4X as many games as the competition.
Basically, the graphics have attracted people to gaming for years, and the controls sent them away.

for most games Wii-mote is nuff.
look at need for speed, they give you the choice: with or without nunhcuck...motion sensing kinda makes allot of things possible.
you dont need all the add-ons nintendo makes.. it depends on what the game requires or what the gamer wants ( like the zapper style addon you dont need it)

plus if you buy the highest Wii-points card you get a classic controller for free.....now thats a good deal ;) so its really not a turn off....when nintendo makes these good offers
