The X1′s Future For Gamers after Microsoft's Restructure

Earlier this month Don Mattrick left his post as head of the Xbox hardware division in Microsoft for a gaming company named Zygna. Rumors reported that this was due to the impending changes and restructuring of the organization internally. Well early this morning CEO Steve Ballmer sent an email to his staff titled “One Microsoft,” in which he details the new way the company will function. The company will be now be split into a number of divisions starting from Engineering, Marketing, Business Development and Evangelism, Advanced Strategy and Research, Finance, HR, Legal, and Operations. Within engineering there will be four units: Operating Systems, Applications and Services, Cloud and Enterprise, and Devices and Studios. This is key because it is the engineering department that the Xbox One “X1″ is developed in along with all properties related to that. (Dev, Industry, Microsoft, Next-Gen, Tech, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

It'll be interesting to see if this translates into actual changes for the console

Microsoft is in the best position right now.

The real damage is done, but even if that were all wiped clean and it was a great gamer friendly console why pay more for less.
If the Ps4 stays around £350 then the X1 would need to be around £270 just to be directly competitive product - it has a slower GPU, less usable ram, cheaper ram, non-upgradable hard drive etc.

But I thought it was all abut The games?

That tech helps with games u know that right
JBSleek  +   564d ago
Lol. So I guess PS1 and PS2 couldn't have good games because their specs were inferior right?

Oh yea that's right it doesn't matter. Also tghe specs aren't too far out.
The_KELRaTH  +   563d ago
Not too far out but enough that multi-platform games will likely have lower quality textures, shorter draw distances, lower quality anti-aliasing, dropping from 60fps to 30 etc. etc. much like it is with the PS3 and 360

It says it right in their vision statement, they want a microsoft controlled home. Pc, windows phone and xbox one controlling all aspects of your entertainment media. 3 screens one cloud. All these devices will share all information probebly on the dedicated servers they bought which they never said were exclusively for gaming.

Imagine the revenue from just advertising.... between bing searches, kinects observations and your cell knowing exactly where you are and when via gps the data mining would be unparalleled! I honestly think microsofts game plan is money from advertising. Their focus are for devices to comunicate together and to do it well not gaming thats down to devs. Microsoft don't care about the gaming hobby just how to exploit gamers via forced advertising.

Right in line with Ballmer's vision.

How are there not more articles around talking about this? If microsoft are using my potentially limited bandwidth to make money surely I'm intitled to some of the profit for supporting thr cost lol

Didn't know Skype went from 120 million users to 1 billion that's a big increase.
greenlantern2814  +   563d ago
3 people that have no background in the gaming industry, 3 people that will do what the real boss wants without question.
That also means the 3 of them need to work well together, communicate efficiently and hope 1 of them doesn't screw it up.
Also means the people running Xbox don't really care about gamers so much, just look at how they tried selling Xbox1 as a tool for business. And since they will know focus on making the system more accessible and more attractive to an audience that isn't gamers then the gamers will ultimately suffer.
