Due to high demand from almost 5 million concurrent users, it appears the Steam servers are being hammered in the Steam Sale.
Happens every year. Nothing new to report.
Aye, Steam actually goes down a bit (far more frequently than the PSN or XBL), it gets off surprisingly lightly because of it. Doesn't go down for long, but it doesn't mind hiccupping quite a bit. No biggy (for me at least, I tend to play single-player strategy games on PC), but will be good if it were a dash more reliable.
I know, you would think they would be better prepared for it..

Does that mean the sales were that good? Or the servers are that bad?
Got dark souls prepare to die edition for 7 bucks :). We had the original game on xbox but this was too good to pass up.
Got Borderlands 2 and Bioshock Infinite for now. Ridiculous deals.
Borderlands 2 was much cheaper at gmg last week $13.50 for game and season pass and Infinite was same price with 3 free games.
I got BL2 at Best Buy for 11 bucks on their Monday deal.
I still haven't found anything on sale that I want and I don't already own..
It took a few tries, but I got what i wanted. I had been waiting for scribblenauts to be the price of a burger. It's pretty fun. :)
