The Indie vs AAA Debate

Hardcore Gamer: What I’m trying to say is: if you don’t like Minecraft, that’s all well and fine. Don’t like the business decisions a major company makes? That’s fine too. It’s when people decide to damn “indie games” or “AAA games” as a whole that gets me all uppity.

I think they both coexist perfectly. People will still buy big games and still can afford to buy smaller sized and priced games thus getting a lot out of gaming. Now indie really pushes new gameplay ideas as the risk is smaller so we still get innovation. We need both AAA and indie this next generation.

The problem is the mid tier games. They require large budgets and big teams but don't get much return as they are priced at a top tier price. But lowering the price instantly advertises the game as a mid tier game and still struggle to sell well.

Another problem with the indie side is anyone can become an indie develop regardless of skill which is flooding the space. It is very easy to miss some quality indie games as they really only spread from word of mouth as there are lots of games out there. We know about the big indie developers but it seems increasingly harder for new ones to get noticed. Luckily youtube channels are there to help but they can only do so much

I don't understand it either. A game's budget isn't indicative of its quality. Disliking a game purely because of that shows lack of maturity.

Debate? never even seen this issue come up, like ever. Everyone i've seen, heard, or talked to seem to enjoy both just fine, a game is a game, if it's enjoyable then so be it, doesn't matter how it's made.
