The Walking Dead: 400 Days DLC Review – Different Perspectives [Gamesta]

Daav from Gamesta.com takes on the added content for Telltale's The Walking Dead series. This extra edition reworks the format to give 5 short burst stories, which are not equally touching as the main series, but excellently paced in their own way. It may even reveal something for the second season. (PC, PS3, The Walking Dead - 400 Days, Xbox 360) 8/10

The stories were brilliantly written but sadly, after hoping their next entry into the series would bring more player choice I actually felt far less power to choose during this game. Many of the choices that weren't made for me were quite poorly explained.

I played Wyatt's chapter first and instantly ran into a bunch of problems. (Spoilers for this one short ten minute chapter). First of all, when having to choose who should leave the car I decided I would go. I made my choice and was told I couldn't. It seemed my only option was to play Rock Paper Scissors. I chose to abstain from picking a hand, hoping this would trigger more dialogue in which I could insist I go but after abstaining twice my partner got a sad look on his face and said, 'oh, looks like its me who has to go'. Not even, 'fine, don't play. I'm going' but a sad defeated response like he just lost. While waiting for him I was attacked from outside the car. I had the choice to start the engine so I took it, thinking a mobile car would be a good help in this situation. Maybe I could run over the guy trying to drag me out of the car or drive up in the direction my partner left, try to pick him up and get the hell out of there. No, instead my guy just drove off in the opposite direction and I got the trophy for being an abandoner. Again, I wouldn't mind so much if my options were given as 'stay' or 'abandon' but there are just so many more options that come with starting a car engine, abandoning your one friend is a huge leap.

This was easily the worst chapter and some chapters offered some very good options and story moments but still, that one part made me worry a little. I also really hope that there is a very small focus on this group in Season 2. I would hate to play the entire season as many different people and even if I play as somebody new who joins the group, I enjoyed the mystery of not knowing who exactly other people were in the first Season. If this is the group in Season 2 any doubts about any member will be squashed by the fact that I have this supernatural knowledge of who everyone is and what they've done.
