Mark Cerny on PS4: “I Think Things Will go Rather Well in This Generation”

The Develop Conference is happening right now in Brighton, with Mark Cerny being quite heavily involved by talking about quite a few different topics, including the PlayStation 4, indies, and Knack. - PSLS (Mark Cerny, PS4)

Well I hope he's right.

Plenty of reason to expect good things.

Given the direction Sony has taken with this upcoming generation I feel they will come out on top. And they deserve to if they keep listening to Devs and the gaming community as a whole and implementing the things we have asked for.

What have the community and devs asked for that Sony is doing that hasn't been done? Cerny is simply repeating the same marketing buzz words that are currently popular among the more vocal demograph they are targeting. Say it enough times and it will be true. Sony created a PC based console that is easy to develop for and added a paid online service to create a more "robust" experience. Sony fans are crediting Cerny for this amazing new concept that Microsoft adopted with the original Xbox. The other big buzzwords are DRM and indie games. Worse DRM is already being applied on Marketplace and PSN with digital downloads on the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP and Vita. Indie games? Seriously? The other huge thing is Sony allowing more freedom for devs that make games I can play on my phone. Seeing how Sony offers two mobile platforms, it kind of makes sense that they would embrace indie titles. Quick someone list a top 10 of indie titles on either consoles and we can see how many of us actually support this huge movement that is going to revolutionize gaming and hopefully justify our $500-$600 purchases in the fall.

this guy knows what he's talking about. He's been in the industry for many many years.

He is always right and the ps4 is the console to get for the new gen.

I just hope PS4 raises the Sony bar of online multiplayer dependability and functionality.

While ps4 is clearly a superior single player console, I have yet to see whether or not the new PSN will be as reliable and streamlined as Xbox Live is.

And I know PS+ offers great value, and I AM buying a PS4 first, but man... I have had some great online gaming experiences with my friends on 360 with Party Chat and "invite to game" feature (which both work flawlessly, mind you).

I'm excited for Sony, but I'm nervous that with the new 300,000 servers Microsoft might have a more fluid CONNECTIVITY type of console excelling in multiplayer fun.

Well I think too. XONE and PS4 will face to face this gen. I mean no more hard architecture or Rrod, free psn or paying live, no more controller better for shooters while other better for the fighting genre.

Things will be even.
PSN_ZeroOnyx  +   723d ago
No architecture as hard as PS3, but X1 did choose an architecture that is harder to work on than PS4 without a doubt.

Hoping for the best! It's going to be a fun next 5 - 10 years.
Craigatorian  +   723d ago
what if this is the last generation and we have to get stuck with these consoles forever?
Wedge19  +   722d ago
Look at the evolution of the beginning of the PS3 to the current PS3. I think we're going to be just fine.

Love this guy and I trust his words! :)

He has a very quiet confidence to him.
Computersaysno  +   723d ago
Look at that picture of him....just soak in the glorious nerdiness.

What a guy, you know PS4 is safe in his hands. They actually put a guy in charge of the console who knows what he is doing.
Death  +   723d ago
They subcontracted console development to an outside analyst since they couldn't afford to create another Playstation. Cerny built a better Xbox 360. Microsoft did the same thing. They even contracted the same manufacturers. If Cerny is so brilliant why is anyone playing on a PS1, PS2, or PS3?(no disrespect for Mr. Cerny since he is well established in the industry).

In all honesty, please say you are buying a PS4 for the exclusives. If you are buying it for the revolutionary PC based hardware...

I'm still very skeptical. there needs to be more than just 1st and 3rd perspective games.
JsonHenry  +   723d ago
^^ I would love to see MMO and RTS games that make use of a Keyboard/Mouse or a dedicated KB/M like gamepad. I think if they did this they would completely dominate the competition.
Rowdius_Maximus  +   723d ago
Cerny is great. He's a really cool and respectable guy.

it's the sexy gen

We will help bring your console forward, Mark.

Haha, ya think? Certainly the gen is starting well for them.
HappyWithOneBubble  +   723d ago
PS4 has already won next gen for sure. It's way ahead of the competition.

Understatement of the week.
Sm00thNinja  +   723d ago
Must everything that comes out this mans mouth be an article on N4G. I mean really?
EXVirtual  +   723d ago
Sweet. This gen is gonna be great. Sony really have ticked all the right boxes this time around. Never considering always online DRM and blocking used games, understanding that a game console is for games and most definitely the power of the PS4.
