PS4's first JRPG: Soul Saga creator talks 'insane' choice to go indie and chasing a lifelong dream

PSU writes:

"The news broke midway through Soul Saga's Kickstarter campaign--Mike, under his development moniker Disastercake, had secured the information he needed to bring his passion project to PS4 and PS Vita. The $80,000 stretch goal was set. A mere day later, it was shattered.

In-between answering backer emails and engaging fans on his Twitch channel, Mike took the time to chat with me about Soul Saga's new art style, his history, and what makes independent development a thrilling, daunting journey, not unlike the best JRPGs themselves." (PS Vita, PS4)

This seems to be very interesting.

Do you know what could be AWESOME BY SONY ?

Annually release in disc format the 5 or 10 best Indie games of the year (assuming that they will fit) otherwise I think these games will go little under radar.

That would be a great idea and a fantastic opportunity for Sony to really show their support for indie developers. Think about the potential diversity on offer too, such a product would offer a great deal of value.

Guys i think that already exists , not long ago they released volume 1 which contains 4 psn games i think ,they are psn exclusives though, the disc is called " Best of PlayStation Network, Vol. 1 ", available in NA only i believe .

Good read. Looking forward to this whenever it finally goes up on PSN.

Traditional RPG's or JRPG's are definitely something I would like to see enjoy a comeback. If it's through the indie devs more so than the big guys, I'm definitely ok with that. Although it would be great to see Square return to form and even Capcom dig deep for a new Breath of Fire. Wouldn't mind a new Legend of Dragoon. With the ease of development next gen, I'm hopeful to see more.

I'd be ok if an indie company did a legend of the dragoon sequel. As long as this wait ends for it 10 years is to long. Dark cloud i'm sure people want to see as well.

He's doing a great job on this game and he even managed to get 2 great English voice actors from some popular anime's.
