It's Time to Face the News: Microsoft's Image Problem

USgamer: "Microsoft is in dire need of someone who will represent them in the court of public opinion." (Industry, Microsoft)

"Microsoft has an image problem and a good face could fix the problem."

I'm not sure why would replacing Mattrick would solve the problem. Would it make anyone who isn't already going to buy the console do so just because a new guy will replace Mattrick and end up saying the same things Mattrick has said? The Xbox One is what it is, regardless of replaces Mattrick. Besides, issues like DRM and Kinect aren't decisions he can make on his own, they have to go through top tier management to be approved.

"but even more surprising is there’s probably not a gamer that will shed a tear for his departure." Maybe because anyone without a top notch internet connection has to "stick with Xbox 360"?

"Nintendo has three strong faces: Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, designer Shigeru Miyamoto, and Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime."
I wish if Gunpei Yokoi was with them. Even if he hasn't passed away he'd still won't be included with them; nintendo's ill treatment led him to leave the company in the mid 90's. They're sometimes branded as the "saviors of the videogame industry." But where would they be without him? Would the NES have sold well if it's visuals were on par with the 2600? Or if it was extremely expensive? Gunpei designed the system with minimal components, with an 8-bit processor very similar to the 2600's, which made the system cheap to produce, but through amazing engineering he was able to make its visuals be on a different level. When it was shown at CES, its specs made everyone laugh, but when everyone saw its visuals, everyone was impressed, especially the engineers who according to one of them, thought it was an "engineering miracle." What would Miyamoto would've been able to make for it if it had the same capabilities as the 2600? Not much.

You're right in thinking that this sort of change won't bring about some profound and immediate effect. It's not something that would happen over night, but I think the idea is that brand perception is important to a company like Microsoft, and this is just one of the many things in the consumer's mind working under the hood to affect how they interact with the company. Though it won't feel like sweeping corporate change is occurring, any positive change is a step in the right direction.
