Spartacus Legends Review: Free to Play and It Shows | Entertainment Buddha

Ubisoft’s Spartacus Legends is the latest video game release to employ the free to play model, and this time around it’s an actual console title, and not some wimpy sized mobile app. Both XBL Gold members and PSN users can now download this fighting game based on the recently ended gory Starz series for $0, which is fantastic, but not as awesome as you may think it’d be to download a free console title. (PS3, Spartacus Legends, Xbox 360) 7/10

Article is mistaken.

You do NOT need to spend Gold, the number shown next to equipment that requires gold is the level requirement at which that item costs only silver. By leveling up you make every item in the game available.

The only thing you need to spend gold on is additional gladiator spots after you unlock 4 paying just silver or to recruit legendary gladiators via the story mode after you defeat them. You don't ever need to spend gold or money to move through this game. It speeds up the process but isn't ever necessary, and with the level up system awarding gold per level you can get enough to unlock additional gladiator spots as well as the legendary gladiators themselves.

My only issue with the game is the arbitrary difficulty some AI's have from fight to fight and the necessity to battle certain primus opponents with a certain gladiator build. For those who don't know certain gladiators can use certain weapons, and some fighting styles are NOT suited for others.

You do not want to try fighting a trident with a dual swords for example as you will likely NEVER win. The game does pit you into some of these fights and the Lethality setting of certain arenas, or the likely hood that you will be executed, result in the need to practice with different techniques and purchase multiples of the same style of gladiator to move further in the game.

Nope... high end items require gold.

I am not level 50 fame so you may be right, but all the gear I can look at now shows me a level requirement that will only cost me a small amount of silver at that level.

My point was more in regards to the fact that spending gold makes things go faster. To unlock some of the equipment would take hours without gold. You're dead on with odd difficulty between opponents, and the weapon requirements. Thanks for reading!

I meant no disrespect with my comments, just felt like the emphasis was misleading.

You may want to mention that the inclusion of UPlay on PSN makes the game easier for Playstation owners and all PVP matches suffer from latency issues.
