CDProjekt RED hope that the R18+ rating will mean they don’t need to edit the game for Australian audiences, but have said that they won’t be taking it into account when designing the content.
“Putting money, wide audience, ratings, sales charts on the first place is a wrong way of doing it.” They say all the right things, especially with the "wide audience" remark. Certain companies could learn a thing or two from that. Please go and make a game for a certain style of player, a certain audience. If it is good enough, engaging enough, then it will attract some players who are fans of different genres (or more casual players) that want to try out a new experience. In terms of the more casual gamers, make them want to rise to the next level, don't dumb it down to theirs in a desperate effort to attain Call of Duty-like sales numbers [note: I'm not saying all people that play Call of Duty are on a "lower level", just using a high selling game that is generally easy to get into as an example].
