"The Wii U is a very powerful console, but I think Nintendo has a hard time explaining to consumers who should buy it and why. It becomes a paradox."
it wouldn't be so difficult if there were games to back up the claims.
Monolith's game looks excellent! You can skip to the 1:00 mark to see the beginning of the real action http://www.youtube.com/watc... I didn't detect any stutter or slow down really either. There are other games that are coming but since I don't work for Nintendo I'm not posting them :P
Hmm that game on the video looked on par with Titan Fall on the Xbone http://www.playereffort.com... The Wii U has surprised me! EDIT: Well I guess 2 people weren't as shocked as me... of course there always are those know-it-all people, especiall on N4G.
@ryu in defense of xbone, monolith are,if I'm not mistaken first party or rather close to nintendo and Titan fall was once multiplat, probably time exclusive so that does count, ryse or dead rising would be a better comparison.
@RyuCloudStrife: Most of the games late this gen look on par or even better than Titanfall. So that's not too impressive. I agree that the Wii-U is a powerful console as of now. It's just not future proof in terms of power.
Your right dude X looks better than titanfall in my eyes...
Pretty much - that and from a developer like this, what experience do they have at pushing hardware to its limit?.... I doubt very much. By contrast, if they call the Wii U 'Very Powerful' I'd think realistically speaking and spec-wise they'd say PS4/X1 are 'Mindbogglingly powerful' in comparison to what the Wii U can do. Am sure the Nintendo fans will hate me for saying that but cmon....it's bloody hardware, it's like Math. It's either right or wrong (And Wii U in no way is 'stronger' than PS4/X1) - but you can still respond with the "Hardware doesn't matter" counter, even if it's not a good one. (Because everyone is also waiting for valid games on the Wii U that makes people want to buy a Wii U, all the while third party support giving up on it)
Well, hardware does matter, but larger numbers really don't in some circumstances as long as their is a reason. For instance, what we know about the Wii U is that it posseses a good ammount of General Purpose Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU). GPGPU handles processing for computer graphics and is capable of dealing with them at a highly efficient rate. As such, it is becoming the norm in high-end PCs. Now with all the graphics running through the GPGPU, it makes the CPU less important, and can instead be used for the game's background processes which are not very intensive Now, 8 GB of CPU is still rather impressive, and will definantly dish out some high quality games, but lets not mark the Wii U as being leaques behind the Xbox One and PS4 as we simply dont have the information, due to lack of official Wii U spec, to make that call.
@Mounce im sorry but hard ware dose not matter in terms of how powerful the console is. Look back and the PSX, PS3, Wii, DS and more were not as powerful as the consoles around its time but still sold more than the other consoles in its gen and had some amazing looking games that pushed the limit of the console. Console gaming has never been about power its about the games and at the moment the WiiU is lacking some of the games that make it sell but come March this year the WiiU will have Super MarioU + DLC, Mario 3D land, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, zelda wind waker and more so this is a reason to pickup a WiiU.
Yes you are right WiiU is not as powerful as PS4\X1 yes that means games will be prettier and have better physics etc etc but I love the gaming experience that Nintendo provides so guess what im doing? Buying a PS4 and a WiiU. I dont think Nintendo is trying to compete directly with Sony and Microsoft. They are just working to give consumers a compelling reason to buy a WiiU. If you buy 1 of the other consoles as well...great that means you love games and will likely buy more games if they are made well.
Wiiu is future proof Criterion and Shinen and michel ancel have said there games took zero optimization.
seeing is believing, Nintendo should prove it to the gamers around the world that the Wii U can rival ps4/xb1. If they don't then there's a high chance that the console will be forgotten. MS did some good changes in policy section, and they will most likely recover some of the lost gamers who decided to jump ship for next gen. As for now it seems like most people will get ps4, then XB1, Small portion will get a Wii U. Gamers wants the best experience for the cash they will spend, gamers will not rush out to buy a console which is slightly above ps3/xb360. They can get the games on the current console. Nintendo should prove gamers wrong and show the world that there are great experiences waiting for gamers on Wii U, unique and worth the investment. If they do, then people will buy the Wii u, install base will grow bigger, 3rd party dev will support the Wii U to get to the customers wallet. Few things will help them, price cut when PS4/XB1 launches, New exclusive IPs for all audience, more work in the online section. Nintendo doesn't have to compete directly with Sony and MS, they can aim to be the 2nd console in gamers home since most of Multiplatform games will be on PS4/Pc/XB1. Gamers are waiting for Nintendo's next move.
Another very powerful statement,Nintendo should start marketing the hell out of it....i can think of some amazing adverts for such a device....
Nintendo just buy a bunch of 3rd party studio's and then you will stomp on the competition.... Obviously they become 1st party ? but u still have to buy 3rd party studios there not 1st party until you acquire them...
Lol. If they build their own teams, they become first party by definition. :P Edit: oh, nice ninja edit. Lol. XD
To all the disagrees: When I posted the stuff above, it was in reply to Triforce's original comment, which was something like: "Nintendo should build their own third party studios". Then Triforce edited it.
Wii U is a nice little console but it needs more games worth buying, better marketing, and a price drop. 3DS was doing poor until Nintendo fixed the problems that plagued the handheld. Wii U is experience the same problems right now and so far Nintendo is doing little to solve it. It's a given the little third party support it had went down the toilet.
I'll believe it when I see it. This is a basically unknown dev team, who has not really made anything aside from this and 1 other 3ds game. Their opinions on WiiU's power hold little weight. I'll wait for Nintendo to make a new Metroid or Zelda to see what power it really has. Hurry it up Ninty!
Just because you haven't heard of them, doesn't make them unknown. Monolith soft has been around since the PS2 and Gamecube and are very well known. They made the Xenosaga/Xenoblade games and Baten kaitos. They also co-developed Smash bros: brawl, Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus and The legend of Zelda: Skyward sword.
I'm not talking about Monolith, X looks great. I've played plenty of Monolith soft's games lol. I'm talking about SteamWorld Dig Developer, the dev making the comments in this article.
Oh crap, sry about that. went afk for a few minutes after reading the article then came back and saw all the comments talking about Monolith and got mixed up.
No worries man, thought that might be the case. Hope we see more games like X soon :)
I'd say Nintendo should take their E3 Nintendo Direct and turn it into a short commercial that briefly shows each of the upcoming Wii U games.
Yes but Moonlith have said no cpu problems with X ? it's because the cpu isnt weak with out of order and 3MB of edram cache on the cores makes it a different beast.
Monolith's X looks like a PS3/360 game. The only way you say its look close to PS4/XboxOne games is if you never touch PS3/360 and only played with Wii last gen. That's the only explanation I can think of.
You're just a troll
Trollusmonillus just can't see through his thick fanboy spectacles.
All these statements are hinting deeply that when the AAAs drop support on the Wii U, indies will pick up the slack. It's a potential win for indies and Nintendo.
Its too early to comment on wii u power. It takes time to truly learn how to tweak a console to deliver maximum results. IMHO i believe zelda u will showcase some of wii u graphical prowess. Nintendo may not always have the most powerful hardware, but they know how to squeeze insane results out of their hardware. So you dnt get the prettiest graphics with nintendo but you get a fun experience and arguably the most reliable hardware on the market.
Developers that speaks about the Wii U hardware positively are all saying it's a powerful console. I don't think anyone should be surprised when they start to see games look the same or almost as good as the competitors.
