Top 7... Things we're surprised Nintendo hasn't done yet

Which brings us here, today, to the list that invariably comes up every time we discuss Nintendo’s troubles. The mind-numbingly obvious things that, we believe, could help right the ship. The business decisions that seem so blatant from the outside, but, for one reason or another, stay on the outside. They’re on the tip of every gamer’s tongue, and hopefully one day they come to fruition

Nintendo always plays it safe. Barely any new ips if i remember right.

Phil321502d ago

Oh, they bring new IPs like Xenoblade, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Pushmo, Rhythm Heaven, Sakura Samurai, Dillon's Rolling Western, etc., but those never count because... er... I don't remember the Nintendo troll brigade's excuse.

So, no-- you remember wrong.

Xenoblade = Xenosaga
The Last Story = Okay
Pushmo = 3ds
Wii Sports = Casual
Wii Fit = Casual
Rhythm Heaven = Casual
Sakura Samurai = 3ds
Dillon's Rolling Western

So other than Last Story, you have a list of casual games and 3ds games? For wii's entire console generation? How's that risky?

A risk for a home console is journey, Fat princess, flower, folklore, heavy rain, infamous, little big planet, the last of us.

All first party.

Nintendo and Microsoft have been the meaning of safe for software in terms of last gen. They innovate with hardware, then abandon it for most of their more hardcore games.

Dude, I love Sin and Punishment 1 and 2 so dearly close to my heart but like many "new IPs" you mentioned they are not Nintendo's brain child, nor creation.

These 2nd or 3rd party games maybe published or even OWNED but they are NOT made/created by Nintendo in principle and in practice.

Take away these kind of games and you will see Nintendo is still holding on the same old franchises repackaged with new presentations.

I am a firm believer on console exclusives. They kept Nintendo afloat ever since.

Mr Iwata himself said these types of "hardcore" non first party development titles are left for 3rd party devs to do the dirty work. Nintendo will never have their white Mario gloves working on rpgs, shooters, mature games etc.

It shows as many games for kids and casuals are made by Nintendo 1st party devs and many mature games are made by 2nd or 3rd party devs.

But millions of hobby gamers has seen through this and are not buying this practice as shown by the Wii U sales.

So spiritually and technically the so called new 2nd and 3rd party exclusives are not really Nintendo created games.

Because no one knows about them? Either Nintendo does little to advertise those games you mentioned, or no one's reporting much news on them because I never hear or see anything about any of them.

Kevlar0091502d ago (Edited 1502d ago )

Because the DS, 3DS, Wii, and WiiU are so conventional. While they don't make new IP's every 4-6 months the one's they do are always stellar and sell remarkably well. Animal Crossing, WiiFit, Brain Age, WiiSports are all heavy success stories when Nintendo branches out

They have both quality and quantity, an excellent track record.

Phil321502d ago

No, Xenoblade is not Xenosaga. It uses the Xeno prefix as a tribute to the director. Learn your history before you spread misinformation. Thanks.

And lol at you having to go through my list to make up excuses as why those series shouldn't count. Remember when I said "I don't remember the Nintendo troll brigade's excuse"? Well, apparently you reminded me. Absolutely pathetic.

KarmaFOX1502d ago (Edited 1502d ago )

You also replied to a post which first sentence was and I quote "Nintendo always plays it safe". That was the whole point to his follow up point. If you're just picking and choosing instead of actually arguing against his claim, you have no merit. You'd be better off just starting a brand new discussion.

If you want to do that, by all means, but don't try and hijack his discussion. Good day.

mii-gamer1502d ago

lol @karmafox trying weaseling himself out of the hole he dug for himself. You are wrong just face facts. Wonderful 101 is a new ip nintendo owns. Plus there is pandora's tower for the wii and Nintendo Land

Freedomland1503d ago

This is just about time to bring out their check book for the studios outside Japan.

I would love a Pokemon 3D game! Imagine having a big world to explore (like Zelda Ocarina of Time) but much bigger, and having Pokemon living in there, and also hiding (like Final Fantasy XIII chapter 11) and you can approach them to start a fight or take pictures of them (like Pokemon Snap) but when you fight them, the fights are like Pokemon Colosseum, but actually fighting and beating each other (Pokemon X and Y are going in the right direction for this)..

That would be the best Pokemon ever!!!!!!!!!!
