Nvidia GeForce 320.49 WHQL Now Available, Fixes Major Issue That Caused Damage On GPUs

DSOGaming writes: "A couple of days ago, Nvidia stealthily released a new set of WHQL drivers for its graphics cards. According to various reports, the previous WHQL drivers caused damage on a variety of GPUs. Although nothing has been confirmed yet – and to be honest we’ve not experienced any artifacts or overheating issues with the 320.18WHQL, Nvidia recommends on its official website the 320.49 drivers."

damage wtf.

Strange Nvidia has had these issues a few times with drivers, firmware.

john21597d ago

my guess is that the previous WHQL were incomplete (or rushed out)

SITH1596d ago

Yep, damage like I had to replace my under warranty GTX 690 kind of damage. I could not open windows without safe mode kind of damage. It was insane.

DeadManMcCarthy1596d ago (Edited 1596d ago )

And Nvidia were the ones boasting about how their drivers are superior to AMD. How ironic.

Adexus1597d ago

I've had these installed for a week, a bit late with the article, no?

john21597d ago

you had them, others did not ;). Also it was not featured here in N4G, so it is good to let everyone know that a new set is available that fixes that issue

Kenshin_BATT0USAI1597d ago

This is why I love Nividia Experience. Knew about it immediately and installed it.

Plagasx1596d ago

Can't wait for that Shadowplay feature..

Psychotica1596d ago

I was going to say the same thing, they came out on 6/25

MegaMohsi1597d ago

i have the 326.01 drivers for Windows 8.1 preview (they were also compatible with Win 7, which is what I have). Do I need to install these or stick with the 326.01?

john21597d ago (Edited 1597d ago )

This quote is from Nvidia's rep about the 560Ti freezing issue that was present in the 320.18 and whether it was fixed in the 326.01:

"Not completely. We believe this is more than one bug and we have pushed out one fix for this so far but we are working on more for the next release."

So this driver should contain more fixes than the 326.01 (that was never meant to be released to the masses)

Erdrick1597d ago

the drivers have caused my rig with a 560ti to blue screen on multiple occasions, i'd upgrade with caution

Ashlen1597d ago (Edited 1597d ago )

This bug actually caused BSOD/hardlock for me. One so bad I had to reinstall OS. Personally I'm going to stick with 298.xx.

I thought nvidia had flawless drivers

/s

kneon1597d ago

Not in my experience. Almost every major OS issue I've had with Windows 7 has been Nvidia related.

fossilfern1597d ago

Im actually thinking of jumping to Nvidia soon, will be the first time in nearly 10 years, and I have seen a few articles about drivers from Nvdia causing damage.

Though I am looking an excuse to upgrade my 6950 but AMD are still hanging onto the 7 series! Thinking of getting the new 760 from Nvdia

duplissi1597d ago

@fossilfern

Just wait a couple more months. the next gen radeons are rumored for october.

also the 760 is only as good as a 7950/670 so unless you can get one for cheap I wouldnt recommend it.

also on a side note, while there are 7 series gtx's you do realize they are merely modified rebrands of 6 series cards right? 760 is a 670, 770 is a 680, 780 is a castrated titan. so its not like nvidia has any truly new cards out right now. just wait to see what amd comes out with in a couple of months as the next radeons are going to be gcn 2 (new chips).

in short wait for amd to compare price/performance ratios.

fossilfern1597d ago

Aye I know the are rebrands and I suppose your right but I seen that AMD are going to last through this year with no new models but I'm also hearing that the 8 series will also be a rebrand.

duplissi1596d ago (Edited 1596d ago )

@fossilfern

there is technically already an 8 series. and they are rebrands, however they are only for OEMs. Tomshardware reported a few days ago that the next series will in fact be the 9 series
(its a rumor at this point).

only two months to wait, and we will know for sure.

I wouldnt base any purchase descision on rumors, after all there have been some that have pegged the hd 8970/9970? as being better than a titan.

fossilfern1596d ago

Just looked up that tomshardware article, think your right. I may aswell just wait the 6950 has been serving me well anyway.

jeffgoldwin1596d ago

"I thought nvidia had flawless drivers"

Nothing is flawless, you just wake up out of bed and find that out today?

NioRide1596d ago

Its a joke about how all the Nvidia fanboys talk trash of radeon/ATI drivers.

jeffgoldwin1596d ago (Edited 1596d ago )

It's not really trash talk when it's the truth about having the better drivers. AMD cards do have nice price points though. It's just that simple.

Like most things in the world, there's pros and cons involved with choices.

NioRide1596d ago

That's a complete lie.

If they had "better" drivers they wouldn't have released these.

seriously damn blind fanboys like you make me sick.
