Game Informer - Time Sinks – Pokémon Red & Blue

Game Informer - It's kind of like dog fighting": my friend didn't have the most eloquent way of explaining this new game called Pokémon that was just released for the Game Boy, but I was intrigued. In 1998 I was eleven years old and had never played an RPG before, I also hadn't really spent much time with any Nintendo game. I remember peering over my friend's shoulder as he explained this world where you can capture and train little monsters. The closest analogy I had at that time was Tomagotchi, but this combined ownership over some strange digital pet with a gigantic world and genuine challenge. (Pokemon, Retro)

You shouldn't enable illegal behavior.

No thanks I rather play my original cardridges with my yellow GBC.

Also if you didn't know emus and ROMs are illegal, read below:

Its legal if you own the games. The saves on my old pokemon games dont work anymore, so I have to use emulators.

Edit: hmm well actually I guess not. Oh well, I'll give myself an exception in this case.

The use of Emulators are only to be used with ONE game and only for research. Beyond that point it is illegal and you can be arrested for it. Piracy is Piracy no matter how it's obtained or how old the game is.

It's amazing how much depth Pokemon games have.

It really is which is why it generates so much hate. People who hate on the games can't see past it's "easy to play" look of the games but when you really get into it the depth is amazing which is why people love it.

You'll never see pokemon as simple once you see a pokemon battle at a professional level....it's almost a completely different game when you take all the strategies, stats, abilities, types, moves into account and really think about strategy.

Given my love for the original and that I had played it a good dozen times, I still don't know why I didn't play the games following. I only player the Leaf Green remake and Diamond (to which I never finished)
