Eiji Aonuma admits the Zelda U Team Tested Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword in HD

"How about this for a twist of events. While the tech demo for the Wii U featuring Zelda definitely was based upon the Twilight Princess, Nintendo told us it wasn't indicitive of the Zelda U art style That's no real surprise given how The Wind Waker occurred in wake of the Spaceworld 2000 Tech Demo. However, one of the main reasons The Wind Waker HD occurred was because while they were testing art styles for Zelda U, The Wind Waker looked so good they decided to simply remaster it for the Wii U as a tide me over until Zelda U. What we didn't know previously was that they also gave the same treatment to Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, however as we all know... Nintendo is not releasing an HD remake of those experiences. From an interview at Wired:"

I would have loved to see footage of what Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword looked like in 1080p.

PopRocks3591964d ago (Edited 1964d ago )

TP yes, SS not so much for me.

Twilight Princess' graphics were somewhat juvenile when they hit the Wii. They looked like a low end PS2 game when obviously the Wii could do a little more with it.

Skyward Sword on the other hand had a brilliant art style, and part of it was their way of getting around draw distance. Too far away to render? Make it look like a moving painting on a canvas. It was nothing short of beautiful to look at.

I feel remaking the latter game in HD would hinder its look unless they found away to preserve the draw distance blur, among other aspects of the art style.

Neonridr1964d ago (Edited 1964d ago )

true, but I find that when I look at the new Wind Waker HD screens I feel like there is a little bit of SS infused in there, as the cel-shaded look now has a bit of a painted feel to it, especially in the background buildings.

seeing these games on Dolphin don't quite do it justice because obviously the textures would be reworked from the ground up for a Wii U HD remake.

CrossingEden1964d ago (Edited 1964d ago )

evidently you haven't seen SS on an emulator in 1080p

Yeah, CrossingEden PC magic, not Nintendo hardware magic.

ChickeyCantor1964d ago (Edited 1964d ago )

The shader actually works far better HD.

My friend who's a bigger Zelda fan than I am said that SS is too linear. I have never played it, but he's usually just telling it like it is.
He said it's a good game, but other Zelda games should be played before it. For what it's worth.

Zelda HD Tech Demo TP Link vs the Spider Boss in Temple of Time.

vishmarx1964d ago

im still waiting for them to admit theyve got terrible hardware to compete against ps4/xbone

zerocrossing1964d ago

Why would they? Nintendo is not compeating with Sony or MS, they are doing their own thing like they always have.

deadeyes1964d ago

And that is why we are missing out on 3 rd party games...

PopRocks3591964d ago

Off-topic comment is off-topic.

Neonridr1964d ago

I would have gone along with a word like "different", but "terrible" is just plain wrong. They have their own market they cater to. If that doesn't include you, oh well, then don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Nintendo isn't competing with the Pbone4. The greatest thing the Wii accomplished was to extricate Nintendo from the "console war". Nintendo is competing with anything that takes gamers attention away from their hardware and games.
ZEROCROSSING,
Exactly.

There was a guy named Gumpei Yokoi that created the Game and Watch and the Game Boy and the Virtual Boy. He created the Zapper and ROB for the NES among other inventions. He was a mentor to a young staff artist named Shigeru Miyamoto. He believed in an idea called latteral thinking with withered technology. He believed high end brand new technology actually hindered game design! He believed that using older hardware mixed with new ideas could create radical new gameplay! To me that sounds like the Wii and Wii U personified.

I hope they go with Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword's art styles. I don't like Wind Waker's art. I prefer a more serious style.

DEATHxTHExKIDx1964d ago

Nintendo releases more HD games. Id like to see twilight Princesss, Super mario Sunshine, Luigis mansion, Metroid prime and Custom Robo.

no_more_trolling1964d ago

how about some new games? lol

DEATHxTHExKIDx1964d ago

That would be great as well but, everyones doing HD remasters of games so if Nintendo does as well I would like to see a few of those titles.

AJBACK2FRAG1964d ago

Love, love, love, to see Majora's Mask in hd. Rebuilt from the ground up. A sequel... any thing really.

Prime_281964d ago

I hope the next Zelda looks like that Wii U tech demo shown back on 2011.

CrossingEden1964d ago

no, because "realistic" art styles age way faster then stylized art styles, wind waker still looks and plays smoother then twilight princess and even more then half of the modern games that come out today, compared to twilight princess which feels ancient

Xof1964d ago

While I agree, I prefer the argument that stylized aesthetics are simply more interesting and visually stimulating than realistic aesthetics.
