The Last of Us is the least we should ask of games

Gamasutra: "Naughty Dog's The Last of Us is the third game in the last year to star a tough male hero in a paternal dynamic with a younger female companion character (Telltale's The Walking Dead and Irrational's BioShock Infinite are the others). All three games seem prominently interested in emotional narratives, and two focus specifically on storytelling in a post-apocalyptic world beset by zombies.

It's hard to call Infinite, riddled with 'what not to do's and benefiting little from its coin-flicking, improbably-waisted Disney caricature of a companion an exemplar of storytelling or relationship design."

These games cost money to make. And they're only gonna get more expensive.

So the author (female) is basically complaining about the male lead character. She literally wrote too long of an article to get her point across. Then compares zombies and post apocalyptic times to games that have nothing to do with either.

Did you read the whole thing? She was complaining about how every other game besides TLOU has failed when trying to handle similar scenarios and explains why TLOU succeeds so well.

KarrBOMB1692d ago

Yes, but did you understand the nuances of her opinionated article that had more hyperbole than actual intelligence?

Regardless of her final words in the article, she still made other points within. Not to mention, she compares games and specific elements that don't match up and takes way to much time to get her thoughts out.

That's hard and unrealistic. If every game had the budget and the talent of ND then sure but that is sadly not the option as well as there being a vast amount of genres who possibly couldn't do what TLOU did. The voice acting and dialogue alone is something that I haven't seen matched and likely won't be for some time.

Games like this are a rarity and a treat.

This article is the least we should ask of gaming journalists. For every one article like this we get 1000 more lacking in any depth or insight but full of unsubstantiated and often biased opinion and ranting.

'The Last of Us is the least we should ask of games' and what about the most?!
