Why the Zelda Series Will Always Remain My Favorite Video Game Franchise

"I've played a lot of video games over the years, but nothing does it for more so than a good franchise. Be it Mario, Age of Empires, Portal, Mass Effect, Mega Man,or yes... The Legend of Zelda. The reason franchises are so endearing and have big fanbases is largely understandable. If you played one entry in the series and ended up loving it, chances are you are going to at least enjoy the rest of the games in that same franchise. It's sort of a "you know what you're getting" thing, and usually that is enough for fans. I may not know what the art style, story, or direction of Zelda U will be, but because it's a Zelda game I can already guarantee on some level I am going to enjoy the experience."

Zelda's definitely one of my all time favorites but I can't say I've really loved one since Wind Waker. They've all been good since then but it just feels like somethings been missing - or maybe it's just me.

Unfortunately for me, I didn't play Zelda games after Ocarina of Time because: A)Majora's Mask required a expansion pack and B) I didn't own a Nintendo system after N64.

Ocarina Of Time was still one of the best games. I still have Nostalgia from those simple ocarina melodies.

Zelda is the greatest franchise of all time! No competition!

My favourites were ALTTP, LA:DX, the Oracle series & Minish Cap.
I liked OoT to begin with, but lost interest later, always preferred the top down games personally.

Never got to experience Wind Waker though.

Disclaimer: I haven't played skyward sword so if these issues were addressed in that game, my apologies.

I hate to play devils advocate here but I too was a fan of Zelda games but it seems the series it self is almost dead to me now. I'm tired of the same formula being used from the super nintendo era for every game. Beat three dungeons unlock the master sword then beat seven more dungeons to face the final boss. Also for the final boss, he always transforms into a second form after you defeat him. They really need to change that rinse and repeat formula to remain relevant or fans will eventually get tired of it like they are with the super Mario games. I really hope they go all out with their WiiU Zelda game and raise the bar once again. Just look at the gap between Zelda a link to the past and ocarina of time. I know fans had their minds blown when transitioning between the two

I wish there were 11( ganons castle included ) dungeons in Windwaker...If only.

" Also for the final boss, he always transforms into a second form after you defeat him. "

Eh...nope... Not in Windwaker, not in Skyward sword.
Ganon simply has two forms. It's part of his character.

And I don't see how mario is even on the same line. Mario never really had a story. Whether Peach got kidnapped or not, it's about the platforming.

They have done plenty with the gameboy games that is different from the console games. And the console games have done things differently in between as well.

Nintendo is mainly trying to tell the same story in a different jacket( link to the past, oot, TP ). But let's not forget Majoras mask, wind waker and skyward sword. Links awakening, Oracle of season/time, minish cap and 4-swords. Games that all introduced new elements and stories.

I'm talking about design, presentation and gameplay not story. They really need to work on those and I don't care if it has a simple story. Most of there long running franchises like Pokemon and Zelda are being neglected in these categories and I want them to take risks and challenge themselves this gen because they will have to work harder than before since their home console is lacking third party support.

Im also talking about design. If you truly claim they haven't done new things then I have no clue what you've been playing.
