If Microsoft had taken a slightly different approach, they wouldn't have necessarily had to sacrifice their ultimate vision. The article explains some potential alternatives.

Their vision of screwing gamers over is probably far from dead XP

PolygonalSlant1096d ago

I agree man. They should have just added 3G cards to every system, like what the amazon kindle does.

punisher991096d ago

Can you really game on 3G?

Cueil1096d ago

no, but the checkup would be handled through that

zeal0us1096d ago (Edited 1096d ago )

Yes on a good signal the latency stay below ~250ms and DL speed ~3Mbits for CDMA. HSPA however has higher DL/UL rate than CMDA.

4G LTE has a lower latency, which is even better for gaming online and streaming. Also a higher DL/UL rate which great for downloading and uploading.

I used to play Mass Effect 3 MP while using my 3G Usb Modem. Heck I even download the DLC for it, though it took a while.

loulou1096d ago

he is talking about the 3g cards for the check in. not for gaming on-line. m$ did say that it was kbs of data that needed to be sent.

HugoDrax1096d ago

Actually you could, as I use to play COD Modern Warfare 2 tethering my iPhone running on edge network. Back when I was running a jailbroken iPhone 1, I was also in a party chat, and didn't experience any lag during my xbox live multiplayer matches. So yes you could actually game on 3G.

"Microsoft should still allow people to opt-in. We can’t dwell on what could have been, let’s look to the future with the Xbox One. The fact of the matter remains that many of the ambitious ideas Microsoft had with their console don’t need to be abandoned. There are still many among us that have great internet connections and don’t mind the 24 hour server ping. Maybe with your Xbox Live Gold subscription, Microsoft could allow its users to opt into many of these cloud features. They could still move forward in their vision, and have people opt in once the internet infrastructure in their areas improve. They shouldn’t have to fully concede their vision just because the Playstation 4 made some direct attacks."

-Thats what Ive been saying ecery since the reversal, micro has hinted that this may happen...I hope so it would be another huge difference between the brands and I think once most folks get a taste of how convenient this plan can be it will put X1 in a very strong position.

HugoDrax1096d ago

I definitely would like to opt in for the original policies as well. I loved the idea of family sharing, I loved the idea of no longer needing disc. Due to this, I was never going to step foot into a GameStop ever again. I would queue my downloads in advanced and my games would download to my console while I sleep.

Also I don't like loaning out any of my games, and this would give me another reason to tell my friends to download/buy their own copies lol. Although, I did pre order my XB1 & PS4 day one consoles at GameStop, so I guess I'll have to step foot in there 2 more times lmao.

Game on GAMERS....

@JeremyTrifilo If you have a Live Gold Membership at home, anyone who uses your console or has an account on it can use the benefits.

@realfabianscott If you buy digital, you can instantly switch with no discs and access your library from anywhere.

@PNF4LYFE I suspect majority of consumers still will decide to be connected and the benefits of that.

@SgtHarvey actually almost all of the features are still there. If you buy digital you have no disc and remote access to entire library

-So it looks as though except for the family share plan most of the perks are still there if you go the digital route....I'm definitely done with gamestop.

Shadonic1096d ago

Why not just offer both ways.

GodGinrai1096d ago

Thats what puzzles me too. They could apply their Ideas to digital downloads while keeping the current physical based model we have always used for physical copies of games.

Cueil1096d ago

they plan to from what I understand, but I think they'll have to rework a deal with publishers... some may want to opt out

JokesOnYou1096d ago (Edited 1096d ago )

Shadonic I agree, clearly they have the resources and infrastructure to support it. Like Cueil said I think they dad to go back to the negotiating table with publishers. Again I think they might be leaning towards such plans which would be a huge plus for all types of gamers.

Grown Folks Talk1096d ago

They could've. Then you'd be complaining that they did. Amazing how virtually every media outlet bashed the original vision, now there's 10 articles a day stating they shouldn't have changed.

Tbh MS are in for a rough time at least till after the console launches and all the dust settles. They have some good Ideas but their failure to communicate them properly got them into this situation. And I say that as somebody that mostly plays on x360.

They have a good product, although I do think it needs to shed $100/euros. I can see that hurting them initially. along with the bad games press. but once they get the wind in their sails they will do fine.

I noticed alot of people on N4g these days are suddenly indie evangelists. Aint these the same people that are always telling us how important exclusive triple A production values and hi fidelity graphics are..a far cry from an indie title but whatever.

That said The indie scene is important...how else would we get the minecrafts and journeys of this world? on that alone MS should allow self publishing on X1. Not to appease N4G hypocrites, who had no intention of supporting MS regardless. Thats why I dont respond to certain people on here. Their opinion is right up their ass! lol

theWB271096d ago

I didn't understand why they didn't offer both ways...an offline system that was seriously gimped for features and the always online system.
