Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition 7 million Copies Sold

The retail Xbox 360 Edition of the monumentally successful Minecraft has now sold over 7 million copies according to a tweet from developer 4j Studios.

What do you guys think, does Minecraft deserve the sales it is still getting? (Minecraft, Xbox 360)

"does Minecraft DESERVE the sales it is still getting?"

A rhetorical question?

Short of polling a representative sample of seven million people who bought the XBox version of Minecraft if they got much enjoyment from it, how can one provide a realistic answer?

In all fields of mass culture, popularity has little to do with merit; and asking if a certain movie, book, or TV show deserves to be popular is pointless.

However, a critic may analyze why a certain game (etc) is immensely popular and occasionally come up with some insights, other than expressing snobbish disdain. But insightful critical analysis is a rarity.

Offhand I would say "well done" to Minecraft -- it's providing entertainment to millions of people in various formats.
