Nintendo and Smartphones: No New Leaf

"Putting Nintendo franchises on smartphones would reach more players - but it might be economic suicide in the long-term

Amidst all the speculation and chatter about Nintendo's future, there are moments when it is crystal-clear exactly why the company has been such an intrinsic part of the world of videogames for nearly 30 years. Watching social networks light up with chatter about Animal Crossing: New Leaf - a game which lacks built-in social media functionality yet has provoked more sharing and discussion within my networks than any dedicated social title of the past five years - is one of those moments. At its very best, Nintendo is spectacularly, peerlessly and almost embarrassingly good at making games.", writes GamesIndustry. (3DS, Industry, Wii U)

This new leaf game reeks of that facebook farm sim lol. Waaaaay to casual.

It's funny how nintendo is basically developing smartphone games for their wiiu console, yet refuses to develop actual smartphone titles.

At this point it's written in stone, nintendo will NEVER AGAIN compete directly with Sony or microosft. They have permanently relegated themselves to secondary console status. So you might as well drop out of the hardware race and just make software.

The majority of nintendo games the past 8 years have been lame, causal shovelware anyway. Might as well just come to terms, nintendo.

If Nintendo games become available on other platforms, does that not mean people will be less inclined to buy their hardware and they are hardware manufacturer as well.

Well he said they should drop Hardware, I disagree with him entirely, just thought I'd point that out.

Nintendo needs to stop making hardware. The profit they can make off of the wiiu in the end will not be worth the investment anyway. It's marginal at best.

Software would be a slam dunk for nintendo. The hardware race is just too competitive for little nintendo to handle. They need to bow out.

They aren't competing anymore. You can't say it's "good for competition" when nintendo isn't even competing. They are just....existing.

PS4 is almost here. Let's get this started. Greatness Awaits!

Wrong again, Nintendo sells at a loss with Wii U, but makes profit on a single game sold. I call that more than marginal.

You sir have no idea what you're talking about.

But I do agree, Greatness awaits in the PS4! :D

Animal Crossing has been a lasting series. It has had 4 games each selling well. It came before the Facebook games and "this new leaf" is on the 3DS not the Wii U.

They should join with Sony, that would be masterful, but in the end Nintendo has always done it's own thing. I am a Sony guy myself, but please don't comment on things you obviously know nothing about.

And for you being "FRiST!" Whatever that means, good job! Do you want a cookie for it?
