A Breakup Letter to Xbox

John Cheese from Cracked:

Dear Xbox,

I'm so sorry you have to find this out in a letter, but after everything we've been through, I just couldn't handle doing it face to face. I won't beat around the bush or lead you on ... it's over. I would tell you that I'm sorry, but the harsh truth is, I'm not. And I won't give you some corny excuse, like "It's not you -- it's me," because the even harsher truth is that it is you.

The Kinect camera in place of HAL 9000 is still an automatic gag reel, even if the overall concept is overdone

I had a hot and heavy relationship with my Xbox for years, then in 2009 I started cheating a little with my PS3. For the past two years I've been much more involved with my PS. I plan on dumping my Xbox for the coming generation and getting close with the PS4.

So Microsoft messed up?...I thought the DRM issue was mostly resolved now.

Don't break up, stick with them. Have you no forgiveness in your heart?

..jokes!

Nah, completely understand. It's all been....well, a bit much hasn't it?

Once you lose consumer trust, your bottom line could suffer.

Wow, This takes me back to 2006 and the PS3, 'next gen starts when we say so, at any price, now buy me!' I hope MS learn from the mistakes made now, because they did make gaming cool again, helped bring it to higher levels, which Sony responded very well to. Learn MS!

Seems the curse of the third console is true! And it seems to all boil down to arrogance and overconfidence.

XBox One. Massively bashed by media and consumers even before launch. Caused the biggest 180 in industry history.

PS3 got bashed and had a rocky start. Lost Sony huge market share. (Although bounced back very strong).

N64. Great console, but lacked sales and was left behind by CD tech.

Sega Saturn. Destroyed by PS and triggered the beginning of the end for Sega in console hardware

Maybe someday we'll see a Dreamcast 2.

The difference is that Sony did release the PS3 at $599 even after the backlash; at least MS did the U-turn 5 months even before the system is out. Big difference.

And still you complain... so, MS listen to consumers and changed, Sony said screw you, we sticking to our arrogance..??? But history rewrites, damn thy MS for changing mind, damn them to hell! Ahhh Sony, enter the pearly gates, we forgive you for for extortion, ripping of people for the first year.... please enter....

Yeah...they did...AT A LOSS. They were losing $130 or more per console. They couldn't just give away a Blu-ray player could they? Sure, it would have been nice to try to trim the fat for lauch (which they did eventually). For a lot of us it wasn't a "rip off", it was just an expensive console design.
