Activision: Innovation drives Call of Duty: Ghosts

There is a lot that goes into a big-budget title like the upcoming Call of Duty game from developer Infinity Ward. When dealing with a franchise as long-standing as Activision's Call of Duty franchise, however, developers need to ever challenge themselves to innovatelest the product go stale.

Daniel Suarez, VP of Production on the franchise, says innovationis exactly what's happening with Call of Duty: Ghosts. (Call of Duty: Ghosts, E3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

the LAST great CoD game was 2009's MW2, after MW2 the series is continuing to lose quality especially with MW3, MW3 was very uninspired, super bland maps, lacked the original magic of CoD 4 and MW2 and felt rushed, BO1 was very good, the second one is decent but not as good as the first one, the series is obviously regressing BUT.....

im really looking forward for ghosts especially after hearing that IW is reborn and better than ever, it's also nextgen which is good, also i like the atmosphere of the game and that trailer soundtrack and the dog

i hope ghosts bring back CoD's Glory

I agree.. The last great CoD was MW2.

The vanilla "next gen CoD" was great. It was tactical. It had kill streaks but only 3, and those felt rewarding. S&D in CoD was a great time and era of the CoD franchise. Too sad it's gone.

MW2 was good, but it went downhill for me. A bit too many kill streaks.

Activision and the word innovation in the same line ...

LOL LOL LOL LOL Same crap every release since MW2 wow that is innovation for Actvision.. I wonder what they call if they really do something new..

A miracle.

IW hasn't innovated with CoD since MW1. MW2 was the peek of quality and ambition (particularly the multiplayer) and Treyarch just puts a slightly different spin on it

CoD is a solid franchise but nothing special as of late.

You mean "peak" and not "peek", right?
Intentions  +   834d ago
CoD, the game that hasn't innovated for a long time.

I laughed at the title, and linked it to a friend for him to laugh. I guess them adding a dog makes it innovative all the sudden. Or, because they added the fish AI, that makes the fish swim out the way, kinda like in Super Mario Bros back on the original NES. GTFO with this BS Activision.

But seriously, at least Black Ops II had the balls to introduce campaign elements like customizable loadouts, branching narrative decisions, secondary objectives, and a new time period.

From what I've seen of Ghosts, on the other hand, NOTHING new is being done. Same drab color scheme, same overly scripted set pieces, same confining linearity, same familiar weaponry, same jingoistic, badly written blockbuster storyline. Unless dogs suddenly count as innovation, I suggest Activision stop using that word in its vocabulary.

Is it innovative to use the same engine over and over?
Rikuide_Furame  +   834d ago
Out of all the FPS games on show at E3, Ghosts looked by far the least impressive. Simply put, if you were to remove the Call of Duty from the title, it would have no real support at all.
csreynolds  +   834d ago
Innovation... Call of Duty... nope. Those two definitely don't go together.
crazyeightz  +   834d ago
To be fair, out of all the current gen FPS that have been released touted as the next CoD killer all of them have failed to live up to those regards. When you talk about innovations, what have those other FPS shooters done to innovate some new ideas into the genre other than just add CoD elements into their own gameplay?
csreynolds  +   834d ago
Clearly you've never played Battlefield...
iceman06  +   834d ago
You named the issue. Everyone was trying to KILL CoD by trying to BE CoD. There are plenty of games that brought new things to the FPS genre. However, it's hard to gain mass market appeal when something becomes trendy. CoD is, in a way, a gift and a curse. It has gifted the industry with billions of dollars and a whole new set of consumers. It's a curse in that many of these new consumers won't try many other games because CoD is their only reason for gaming in the first place.

No innovation. Sorry to those that think there is. They care more about money.
