Final Fantasy XV director Tetsuya Nomura addressed issues of the game being an out-and-out action title without being an RPG. “It is being presented as ‘a Final Fantasy action game,’ but I wasn’t thinking of it like that.”
Why?!!! That would make it less of an RPG.
Yeah, but at least they realized that wouldn't work well with a Final Fantasy game. :]
I knew this would happen when they try to satisfy western audience. Next they gonna make fps final fantasy. Final fantasy is dead.
I like to control the whole party with different members who have different abilities. To do this you need turn base. bring back awsome magic and summons.
@shoddy - They didn't include it though...... They only thought about it. Doesn't matter if it isn't in the final product. They're not trying to appeal to western audiences. It's the same game it was years ago when they announced it.
Moere PROOF that... ...FINAL FANTASY XV(15) will be an Action-MMORPG. since "Fans" wants more "RPG", and SquareEnix needs more Funding to make a real "RPG". You've been warned.
Well that's the idea.. Nomura has even came out calling it an action game. Obviously they want to try and make it FF like too but tbh for those looking to rekindle that awesomeness of past FF games, you probably won't find it here.
Not having NPC's and dungeons would make it less of an RPG. I think what you mean to say is that it would be less of a TRADITIONAL JAPANESE Turn-Based RPG (which FF series is known for being).
It is amusing how opinions of Versus have sobered up since it was re-revealed as FFXV.
right? When it was versus all you heard was "this is square enix saving grace game" or "this is the true final fantasy game" Now its FFXV its all "its action game and nothing like a real final fantasy"
Guilty, I would still play it. Even though it wouldn't have nearly as much RPG type stuff in it. Although I like the concept of it as it is now, taking out the character switch, or the numbers thing would just mean it's God of War with FF characters, and that's just boring.
But it will have as much "RPG type stuff" as FF series. Turn based system =/= RPG. FF is just associated with turn based combat. The turn based was never what RPG's meant.
Bring me back FINAL FANTASY X with new graphics, players, monsters, envi roments and story and i will be happy, don't destroy ff plz, Stop Experimenting! Snookies12 i know,i just saying because FFXIII was bad,and you see what strange experimental stuff they trying to do...
Read the story man, they didn't do it. Just that the idea was brought up, but ultimately shot down.
@Prcko: Yeah man u should read b4 u post. Namoura is the reason why we even have any hope that this FF will actually be a decent one. @Snookies: Good lawd, sir--that's a whole lotta bubbles!
Im glad the combat is how it is,it looks very fun and like it isnt just a button masher.
It looked like a half assed DMC with the usual "cinematic™" sequences. I didn't mind versus as a spin off, but a main final fantasy games? What happened to the turn based combat?
Final Fantasy was originally intended to be an action game but wasnt due to tech.
@KingKelloggTheWH I'll say this as many times as it needs to be said, because that argument is completely nonsensical. Action games have existed for LONGER than turn-based RPGs. It's always been a CHOICE, to make a game of that genre.
Why does the article writer keep saying we don't know if it'll be an RPG? Nomura has spoken multiple times about the world map, the return of an airship, and being able to explore as far as the eye can see apart from mountains. I doubt we're going to get a game with such a large world which is linear.
That says nothing about it being an RPG.
Adapt, change, and survive. It's good that game companies like these switch things up every now and then. If not, the whole industry will stagnate. Every console generation a new generation of gamers flood in. People can cry, bitch, and wine all they want. I personally like to see what Square Enix has up their selves for next gen.
Change is not always good in the industry. The average reviews for Resident Evil 6 prove that. When you change you are taking a risk of losing fans of the series and are also risking the quality of the games by trying to appeal to too many people.
In a develop's mindset. You are the creator. The consumer does not know what they want. Developers have to make the consumers want their product. It's always a hit and miss with any product. You cannot safely assume everyone will like the same thing. Did you know you were going to like Final Fantasy VII before it came out? NO, the developer makes it and you the consumer judge if it's a worth while purchase. "When you change you are taking a risk of losing fans of the series and are also risking the quality of the games by trying to appeal to too many people." Bring up Final Fantasy VII again. By most people argue Final Fantasy VII was the biggest and successful of the franchise going from 2d to 3d. Innovation is now their priority as a company. Sorry to say it but big companies will look and sale figures and stock holder over fans. THEY are a big corporation and not here to please everyone(which is virtually impossible). Thanks to your purchase Final Fantasy will never be the same.
The industry is stagnating BECAUSE of changes like this! Every series is just copying all the action titles. Every game has become THE SAME! There is no variety, anymore.
have YOU played the game? I would love to borrow your time machine.
I've seen the battle system trailer. That says all I need to know. It's an action RPG.
Change is only good if it make sense like The Last of Us. You don't have to re-invent the wheel, just make it better. As for changes for the wrong reason, like to stream line the experience for profit, will never work because the original will always be better than a copy.
Agreed. Change can be good, but too much make's it unrecognizable.
Yeah, you can't please everyone but change can leave you pleasing no one. It can result in poor sales and reception. Change is not always good. As I said before, change comes along with many risk.
Innovation good or bad, we'll just have to wait and see. We can't bring back Square to its former glory and over the years I have come to my senses to accept them for who they are. Their games are not the best but highly enjoyable.
FFXV just screams ''me too'' with the way most games are heading, and i think a few other gamers feel the same way.
You guys sound like a bunch of crybabies because you're not getting what you want. I'm glad that Square Enix ditched you guys. I swear. When did gamers become so entitled to getting something. BE GLAD SQUARE IS STILL MAKING RPGS. At least we GOT something to play... BE THANKFUL
Why not just have an option to take off those options and have it customisable to the gamer itself? As far as I remember, most hardcore FF fans love restricting themselves to one character/skills/no level up etc... Right now I am in the process of completing FFVIII once more without leveling any characters until the very last minute. Also trying to do a FFXII playthrough and trying to get every item/weapon/armour x99... A bit sad really, but some gamers like to go crazy with games they like.
Wow, whoever even thought of that ideal should be fired. Square Enix truely no longer understand what make Final Fantasy great. I don't get it though, cause FFXIV ARR is the best FF experience you can get now. The main entries are going downhill.
it was Nomura. XD
FFXV is looking all that & I like the battle system but if this game doesn't have magic & summons then they should remove the words Final Fantasy from the title.
It has both.
And you know this for a FACT??
The second trailer they showed from E3 has Noctis doing fira...
Then might as well bring the run from point a to point b gameplay mechanic, and the hold x down mechanic. Combined with their new wonderful idea it would make the ultimate play without looking game. Keep the Square enix management out of our games.
The fact that they're even comparing it to action games and FPS', is the reason I am DONE with Final Fantasy.
I don't mind if a RPG has no UI. You could switch it all off in Dragon's Dogma and it still played very well, with monsters getting bruises and burns. But I must admit, hitting the 9999 dmg "cap" (And then breaking it, depending of the game) in a Final Fantasy game is rewarding and taking that away would remove some of the charm.
This is gonna be sick
I am looking forward to this game but I also have doubts about it. I hope they will deliver but we'll see. SE has disappointed far too much already.
any battle system would be better than the brain-dead scrubby battle system from FF13.
IMO FF-XIII battle system was fast, furious, strategic & FUN!...I love all FF games in the past but IMO if they still kept the simple turn based battle system from games 10 to 15 yrs ago would be slow & boring.
I wonder if people actually read the article. Honestly they said they were thinking about removing the UI etc etc etc but decided not to because being a FF game comes first. "you can see the quantity of damage you’re taking and inflicting, and how much you are healing." There's all the stat tracking RPG fans love. Sure it's more action-y but so was Kingdom Hearts and people still considered that an RPG.
I want my turn based ff games back , lucky i still have ff 6,7,8,9,10,10-2 and 12 for my ps1 and ps2 lol.
