Masahiro Sakurai discusses the reasons for choosing Super Smash Bros.' latest characters

Masahiro Sakurai, director of the new Wii U and Nintendo 3DS Super Smash Bros. title, finally had something to say about his current project in the new issue of Famitsu magazine. "I'm writing this around the end of the first day of E3," he wrote in his regular column. "It's about 3 a.m. local time and my eyes are about to shut themselves on me." (3DS, Super Smash Bros., Wii U)

I love Nintendo (especially the President Yamouchi years/consoles (NES, SNES, N64)), but I think that if Iwata invested in more original IP's (for the Wii U, not just portables), then Sakurai would have had a lot more NEW characters to choose from. Oh well, at least now their getting over 70 Indie titles. But Iwata needs to do more to get more NEW Wii U IP's going that are Nintendo-owned so that the next Smash Bros can have even more new character's (and not just a lame exercise lady from Wii Fit and Animal Crossing dude -_- (I like Animal Crossing, but in a fighting game? That's kinda reaching...)

P.S. Nintendo should also put characters from "The Last Story", Bayonetta (if their supporting Platinum's game, then Platinum should shut up about it and let Nintendo use Bayonetta just this once), and Character's from "X".

Hey, I don't care what anyone says; Wii Fit Trainer is a hilariously awesome inclusion. As for the Villager, you know what he can do? DROP A TREE ON YOU.

All jokes aside, Smash Bros. has a lot of fan input these days. I doubt we'll see the likes of Shulk from Xenoblade or Dillon from Dillon's Rolling Western (two brand new IPs mind you) in the game, and that's mostly due to the time constraints they apparently have. Sakurai has already said there's not enough time to include every character from the last game. And if they leave out a lot of fan favorites, I can imagine some people will be pissed.

"hen Sakurai would have had a lot more NEW characters to choose from."

There are tons of characters from the past that have huge potential for smash bros.

I think the problem here is the budget given to him. Nintendo needs to bring out games and they know that Smash bros will move a few consoles.
