Super Smash Bros 4 story mode is changed so that players don't 'watch cutscenes online'

Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that the Wii U and 3DS versions of Smash Bros won't have a story mode like Brawl. But now he says why the game's single player mode is changing, citing fans viewing cutscenes online instead of in-game as the main reason. (3DS, Super Smash Bros., Wii U)

I loved the story mode in brawl. I'm not a fighting gamer so the story mode is what drew me to SSBB in the first place.. It's sad to hear there won't be story drivin cutscenes in the new SSB.

That isn't THE reason, but A reason. Possible the main reason, but this title makes it sound like the sole reason.

gimmiegimmiegames ? gimmie gimmie a better title please.

I thought it meant that this has online coop story and the cutscenes wont be during online gameplay. It kinda sucks without the scenes..but i guess oh well.

Cut scenes may be live and based on actions.

The only purpose of this game is to play against friends in offline multiplayer, this is so much fun.

Urgh....you don't take a step backwards you take it forward.

I don't see why Nintendo just didn't make this in house instead of outsourcing it to Namco.

Just disable the cutscenes when people are playing online....problem solved

Are you an idiot? By "online" they mean on youtube.
Mr_Nuts  +   834d ago
Oh that....that's even worse

So because some people watch cutscenes online, it automatically means no story mode

Just seems like a massive excuse to me, they even said recently that working on the handheld version will hold back the console version

Oh by the way don't call me an idiot because you just come off as a massive dick being like that.

the games not outsourced to namco, internal nintendo devs are working on the game, namco was brought in a la Retro for mario kart 7, to get the game on to shelves ASAP. look at it like this: brawl started development in 2005, and it took 2 and a half years to come out. this game started development in 2012 and it's obviously going to be even bigger than brawl, so the reasonable 2014 release is probably contributed to by namco's help.

uumm ok, still excited over the game though, NO MORE TRIPPING!!! THANK GOODNESS!!

Ok, hated the "story" anyways, they just repasted the gamme making you basicly go through it twice.

Also, Please tell me this game has a subtitle, and not Smash Bros U / 3DS...
Concertoine  +   833d ago
it doesnt, and i too wish it did. even if it was Super Smash Bros Conflict or Super Smash Bros Tussle

Nintendo just keep shooting themselves on the foot over and over again and they just won't stop!

any little thing you can find to complain about a Nintendo product eh??
krontaar  +   834d ago
Thank god, hopefully this means they'll integrate the story into the actual gameplay. The last games levels were so bland and uninspired.
wishingW3L  +   834d ago
there is no story nothing. Just some random cut-scene for character introduction and that is it but even worse is their excuse to scrap the story mode like this... Because people watched them on Youtube and they don't want that... Seriously, WTF? These guys need to get their heads checked because something is obviously very wrong with them. O______0

Try reading it again. There IS a story mode, it's just going to be different.

Pretty sad they decided to take out the cutscenes. If I wanted, I could go watch all a whole walkthrough of The Last of Us online, but that didn't stop me from wanting to experience that firsthand in my own experience playing it. Watching these cutscenes online is nice for people who don't have a Nintendo console such as Wii U or 3DS and aren't going to play the game.

This is really disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing the newcomers in the cutscenes, as well as the ones in Brawl who weren't in the cutscenes.

I'm not sure if this means no subspace, but if it does, that kinda bums me out. While it was far from perfect, I think it was a good attempt at a real story type adventure mode in the smash bros universe. All the good and evil characters teaming up to take out eachother with a little story added to it. I thought it was awesome. I was excited to see it improved.
kirbyu  +   833d ago
How bout Story Mode only lets you have a few characters in your party at a time, and the story is different depending on who's in your party and what you do.

i didn't really care for brawl's story mode, but if they took out the transition levels and narrowed it down to nice cutscenes and character battles i would really like it
