Why I'm Still Not Sold On Xbox One

After enduring no end of criticism during E3 for its always-online and used-game restrictions, Microsoft reversed course last week, adopting the offline-friendly policies Sony has planned for the PlayStation 4.
Extra Cash For What?
The Xbox One's $499 price tag didn't seem unreasonable when Microsoft first announced it, but when Sony revealed that the PS4 would cost $399 just a few hours later, it raised some valid concerns amongst gamers.

I'm not gonna buy X1 simply because I'm 100% sure Microsoft will do another 180 after it's release and revert to their old policies. If they changed it so easily after week they can easily bring them back again once they get enough money out of people. I will never EVER like old 'draconian' DRM policies no matter what good points of it are there like family game sharing. I will not give up my consumer rights and besides I'll never forget how Microsoft tried to screw me and millions of their loyal customers and fellow gamers.

allformats1634d ago

There are many reasons why I'm not sold. Microsoft took years to create its DRM strategy and I don't think they've given up on it.

MS can't be trusted.

papashango1634d ago

someone bust out the roach spray.

Utalkin2me1634d ago

Main reason i am not sold and will never be, cause it has MS name on the product. I would rather do without gaming then purchase a MS product.

PFFT1634d ago

And yet there you sit using a Windows based PC.
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH no one tell him windows belongs to Microsoft.

NukaCola1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

What bothers me the most is MS played it off like the caring consumer helped shape the Xbone experience, when in fact the ragingly hurt and passionate community threatened MS's wallet and that is why they turned. I don't vote for immoral flip floppers and I never will. The few games they have I can play on PC or get over with. MS burned everyone and you shouldn't just brush that off.

im not sold because it is 2 1/2 years in the making , after the rushed to beat sony out the door 360 red ring of death fiasco I am letting the x1 testers show me what will happen.in the 1st 6 months to a year.

greenlantern28141633d ago

thank you, for saying this because most xbox fans seem to forget that happened at all and also dont seem to realize they spent about as much time on the xb1.
gone give it some time, wait till some of my friends get it try it out see if anything they have said about the xb1 is even true

pixelsword1634d ago

The only way to be sure is to look at the agreement when you go online; that could be said of any console, and any game: that being said, I do agree that such a large shift in policy may induce a backlash later on in the console's life.

No_Limit1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

Isn't this a duplicate article from the other 50 or so approved articles on N4G? PS3 fans will never be sold even if MS give xbox1 away for free so these articles are like beating a dead horse. meh

CaulkSlap1634d ago

I'd bet money they release a cheaper version with no disc drive in order to begin the process of converting people to digital DRM only. Start with it as an option for those who are willing and slowly push everyone else into it.

No_Limit1634d ago

you mean like the PSP Go?

B-radical1634d ago

wow 100% sure aye that means you like have um er inside info!

Bigpappy1634d ago

You are just trolling 'DxTrixterz'. But M$ does need to snow a lot more to sell these things they promise. It will not affect people like me, because I am already a fan of the Xbox brand. M$ are leaders in the console business. They are the ones who set the direction for where consoles go next. Sony is reactionary, and scared of negative noise because they can't afford anymore loss of money.

M$ has a bout 4 months to close the deal and get people, that are not fans, excited about the X1. They don't need to outsell PS4, but they need a big chunk of the pie to continue to push their vision.

CerebralAssassin1634d ago

Consumer rights dude?? Seriously? Is that written down somewhere or do you just feel like your owed something??

Parapraxis1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

So..can I sell my WiiU/PS3/360 games where, when and how I choose, or not?

Anybody who thinks consumer rights is a joke has some damn screws loose.

CerebralAssassin1634d ago

You dont have rights if you dont know them. We all scroll through terms and conditions when we log into psn and xbl. People ljke you @para is the reason our community sucks. You consyantly have your hand out expecting something for nothing.

I am buying Xbox One day one because no matter how many times I hear nonsense like this. I could care less about politics and I am all for a company who tells me what the system is capable of and doesn't hide behind politics. I also have a great experience with the current Xbox 360 no matter what the naysayers say. Did I mention enhanced achievement rewards, snap, cloud based online, Game Skype, Game DVR a fantastic controller and not to mentioned enhanced kinect experience that will pratically enhance the way we play games, One more thing an excellent Lineup of exclusives and great 3rd party exclusives. There is no other then the One.

slazer1011634d ago

You are a perfect example of what M$ was counting on when the came out with their screwed up policies. People like you who will buy anything just because they are told its the latest and greatest. Never thinking of the long term consequences of their actions. Good thing it did not workout that way huh.

CerebralAssassin1634d ago

Your a perfect example of a what sony was counting on. All sony has done was undermind MS every step of the way. Its a good strategy but all that strategy shows is that they werent super confident in their shit. Only confident that gamers would cry like they always do and they would capitalize on it. They would make uneducated decisions on which system to own because ms was changing something. Your a sheep like everyone else on this site. The ps4 feels more like ps3.5. Atleast ms tried to actually try something different and stick to what they know. Which is software. What has sony done that is game changing? Upgrade in graphics and processing power is all I see and ms did the same. So what now?

Parapraxis1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

"Your a perfect example of a what sony was counting on. All sony has done was undermind MS every step of the way."
Undermine them? You are trying to paint a picture where Sony was a devious super villain...sorry kid, It's not working.

"Its a good strategy but all that strategy shows is that they werent super confident in their shit."
Wait a damn second.
Sony showed their specs first, they showed their games first, they sure as hell were confident in their "shit".
They built the PS4 with a ton of developer feedback, they never said they had DRM policies akin to Xbox Ones, in fact, they didn't discuss it much at all, but the fact they didn't discuss it, does not mean that they did, and then changed their minds to one up Microsoft.

"Only confident that gamers would cry like they always do and they would capitalize on it. They would make uneducated decisions on which system to own because ms was changing something"
So now, you are labeling anybody who does not want a 24hr check in or the inability to resell physical copies of games as "uneducated"?

". Your a sheep like everyone else on this site. The ps4 feels more like ps3.5."
I'll let your fanboyism speak for itself on this one.

" Atleast ms tried to actually try something different and stick to what they know. Which is software. What has sony done that is game changing?"
So different = good in your little bubble. Must be nice to think that you are leaps and bounds ahead of everybody else in intellect.
If the Xbox One presented something new that would have been equal to or better than what gamers have now, they would have been all over it.
But they weren't offering that.
Had they said digital versions of games will be cheaper than physical copies GUARANTEED, or Xbox One was an all-digital platform and with that we are bringing user rights which are better than Steam's, allowing you to virtually resell games, or ANYTHING remotely similar, gamers would have been ALL OVER IT.
But they weren't.

"Upgrade in graphics and processing power is all I see and ms did the same. So what now?"
Well, what now is, Sony has done it better.
Offering MORE power, at a much lesser cost.
So I think the question of what now shouldn't be coming so much from you, or your cohorts.
People who actually see the big picture quickly know where the value is, the question of "what now" is basically answered with.
"now we get some kick ass games, at a better price, with better specs, and hey..even a better controller"

slazer1011634d ago

So what makes me a Sony fanboy? I make a comment about M$ and that makes me a Sony fanboy? Your delusional rant just goes to show who is the sheep and fanboy. That would be you sir.

CerebralAssassin1634d ago

@para

We didnt know the price of games until after E3. At which point ms dealt with a months worth of bad press. How can you call me a fanboy when you know nothing about me OR which system ill be buying at launch. All sony has done was sit in the corner waiting to jump on an opportunity. I never said this was a bad strategy. I said it didnt look like they had a lot of confidence in their product playing the game that way.

They didnt know their price of the system until ms announced theirs. If ms said $599 sony would have said $499. If ms $399 sony would have said $349. Just to stay ahead. Its a shitty tactic that doesnt look good. Their gameplan was to one up ms every step of the way.

Jeevus..do you work for MS?
I'd expect an answer but your mouth is probably occupied with other...things.
If this is what is left of Microsoft's audience I actually kind of feel pity for them.
This is a level of blind consumerism we should all be wary of.

CerebralAssassin1634d ago

Resorting to insults dude. Really?

Parapraxis1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

Ya know what, go read his post history.
I have no problem with people preferring other consoles, but when they speak in this manner they sound like sales reps. And I will promptly rip on them, as anybody should.

Normal people do not say things like
"a fantastic controller and not to mentioned enhanced kinect experience that will pratically enhance the way we play games, One more thing an excellent Lineup of exclusives and great 3rd party exclusives. There is no other then the One."

Sorry, but I'm just not buying what he's trying to sell.

pixelsword1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

"I am all for a company who tells me what the system is capable of and doesn't hide behind politics."

Maybe they don't hide behind politics (however that may be applied to a corporation), but they did try to hide behind silence, then silencing of others; and now, because of their recent past, this looks like they are hiding behind a false policy in the guise of a revision.

I'm not saying that they are going to change back to their old policy, but because of their recent actions, I cannot blame a person for thinking that.

Automatic791634d ago

The point is that consumers are a much more active/dedicated bunch and to acknowledge that no one is ready yet for an online gaming rig 5 months before the system is launched is actually showing that they do listen. Just like gamers spoke about games, they listened. E3 is gaming show and it turned out to be a debate in a presidential race. Really serious. You learn from mistakes and move on. Kudos for moving on and making it about what gamers want.

pixelsword1634d ago

@ MichaelLito79

They did listen, I can agree to that. I am sure that many people hope they don't back-track because consumer confidence would falter.

tiffac0081634d ago

I doubt MS will backtrack on the restriction issue. That would just be brand suicide if they do.

The OtherOS removal would just be a small footnote compared to that scenario.

MysticStrummer1634d ago

Buy what you want and have fun, but don't pretend One's negatives are all about politics.

"There is no other then the One."

To paraphrase Yoda's dying words... There is another game console.

aceitman1634d ago (Edited 1634d ago )

@ MichaelLito79 and come back in 3 months after x1 launch and see if u feel the same way , and by the way lets see if the games they showed will look the same running at home , and this is why . its not a 1st and it wont be the last. http://i.imgur.com/3DqMpDV.... but ms has really got me to not trust them and this is one of them with the drm fiasco and always online .
