The Top Ten Role Playing Games of This Console Generation

With the next generation of gaming consoles right around the corner, I’ve been thinking a lot about both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 game libraries. There have been countless great titles released for both systems that have made owning either (or both) consoles a gamer’s blessing. Among all of the great games, RPGs – my genre of choice – have seen some great entries hit store shelves. In the list below, I will take a look at my top ten choices for the best Role Playing Games of the last genre. (Culture, Dark Souls, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, Fallout: New Vegas, Mass Effect, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, Nier, PS3, Tales of Graces F, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings, Xbox 360)

I find the lack of Lost Odyssey on this list disturbing.

Dark Souls is in its rightful spot on the list. Easily the most fun I have had out of an RPG this gen. Picked up Ni No Kuni recently. I hope that I am not disappointed, but I doubt I will be.

Lost Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles, Eternal Sonata (forget the ending) and Tales of Vesperia deserves a space.

Nier was unique, I loved the characters, the music and the endings but unfortunately the visuals and gameplay were unimpressive.

Agree with all those games, probably would include Skyrim as well.

As for Nier, the music was so good, and loved the father.daughter characters, highly underrated game!

As a few people have mentioned, I'd have definitely put Lost Odyssey in this list. Fantastic game.

Good to see Dragon Age in this list - I'd have put this even higher - one of the best new RPG series I've played in a very long time.

Valkyria Chronicles, Lost Odyssey, and Eternal Sonata definitely deserve to be on the list.

Mine would be the following (in alphabetical order)

Costume Quest
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Eternal Sonata
Fallout 3
Lost Odyssey
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Nier
Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny
Tales of Graces: f
Tales of Vesperia

But there are still a lot of RPGs in my backlog so there are probably some gems I haven't played yet.

Not a bad list at all and i definitely agree with No.1, Dark Souls is my favorite game from this generation and up there among my all time favorite.

Glad Witcher 2 is also there.
One thing i didnt agree with is the lack of Fallout 3, i think Fallout NV was a great game and did so many things better with the gameplay but Fallout 3 just blew me away at the time, it was the complete rpg for me.
