5 Reasons Why Wii U’s Turnaround Won’t be as Outstanding as the 3DS Comeback

GenGAME writes: "When 3DS was down and out, people said that the right software would revive it…and they were right. A brand-new Mario platformer, the next generation of handheld Mario Kart, and a steady stream of top brass software in 2012 and beyond that included Kid Icarus: Uprising, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf were enough to give the system a second life.

"Nintendo’s obviously hoping to bring a lot of that same magic to bear with Wii U, because they’re coming in heavy with games from a number of fan-favorite franchises this year. I fully expect Wii U to come out of its major slump this year… but I get the feeling that its comeback won’t be as successful as its portable brother’s was." (Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Wii U)

Reason #6: 3DS was a handheld with virtually no competition.

But that one admittedly has nothing to do with Wii U...

It's one of those "since I brought up 3DS, I suppose I probably should at least allude to the fact that Nintendo always dominates handhelds somewhere" deals.

But, again, doesn't really overlap all that much with Wii U's challenges.

What you see above is the result of my cat sitting on the keyboard.

Anyway, I don't see why the last one matters. Just because a game isn't surprising, doesn't mean it's bad.

depends on what you call a "turnaround." the 3ds was selling horribly, and in time its held a dominant role as not only bestselling handheld, but the best selling console out right now. the wii u, rising from destitution into a fighting last or distant 2nd place (and let's be honest, the wii u doesn't have a fighting chance with ps4, hence why it doesn't try to) isn't something i'd call remarkable.

Lol! The Wii U is going to outsell the PS4 and the Xbone simply because it's the least powerful system and history tells us that the least powerful console always wins it's respective generation. Sorry better luck next time!

Well, you can say you told me so when it happens. the fact that it's the least powerful doesn't sell it, games sell it. Either way, that argument is deeply flawed. The saturn, genesis, and dreamcast didn't outsell their powerful competitors. usually the least powerful is significantly cheaper, but for 50 bucks more i can get a ps4. so the wii u is the least powerful, but without a price drop and more games that claim is pointless.

The only legit point is the Wii U's price. Which we all know will change soon.

Guess what. SOFTWARE SELLS HARDWARE. There really isn't anything to combat that point, I'm sure when all of Nintendo's first party titles are released, the system will sell just fine, especially coupled with a price cut.
legendoflex  +   800d ago
The same types of software that sold $170-250 systems won't sell like they did then on a $300-350 system.

We'll see.
