Could The Next Console Generation Lead To Video Game Oversharing?

Forbes - There’s one buzzword that had gamers’ eyes rolling during many conferences at E3, and no, it wasn’t “Kinect.” Rather, it would be “social,” or its counterparts “social media” or “sharing,” which at least Sony and Microsoft want to ensure is a big part of their coming consoles.

The story is too old to be commented.

Yeah cloud is the excuse of the xboxone not being powerful out the box. We got hardware little better than wiiu ! Nope we got cloud lol.listen cloud not a game changer studios are

Cloud is a MASSIVE game changer. Do your research.

*does research*

Nope. Not a game changer.

MS can build as many servers as they can afford, but until the connection between the user and those servers is greatly upgraded, using the cloud for remote computation is a fantasy.

Even a 50MB per second connection, which is more than five times faster than the average connection in the biggest gaming market, can only process a tiny fraction of the data that the One's internal memory can, and PS4's memory is substantially faster than One's.

The cloud can be used for some things, which Sony can do as well, but remote computation just isn't going to happen the way MS is implying it will.

MSs Cloud = glorified dedicated server that can stream some extra game assets.

Sonys Cloud, Gaikai = Cloud service that streams entire games.

I think being able to play entire games might just be a tad bit better than letting an online game have a few extra/smarter opponents. -_^

In the future Gaikai could come out with original titles that are only playable through the service because of the PS4 being too underpowered to play them. It's a STREAMING service, it could theoretically stream a future game that required a titan class hardware.

MSs Cloud COULD be something big too, if devs come up with a spectacular use for it. Or it could just be something they're trying to convince you is big that falls flat as PR hype or a gimmick.

@ giga

Even Dice said Cloud Computing for games seems like a waste as there will ALWAYS be at least that 1 latency between the server and the game then the game between the user. Its really a smoke and mirror thing where it wont be really effective on any live play which is where you actually want to use it. It would only be used for updating information or just using the server power as actual hosting servers.

Why are xbox fans so in the dark about technology? Is the XBox One audience the new Wii audience? Hello soccer moms and pre-teens is that you?

Anyone who thinks 'the cloud' will make up for the lack of horsepower in the XBone where it counts is definitely no tech head.

Gaikai cloud is just as the same as "cloud" but it might be better.
