Free Games: Maybe There’s Hope for Microsoft After All

Jed Pressgrove from Fate of the Game says: "This gesture from Microsoft, to me, is more positive than the company’s recent turnaround on DRM. The turnaround came from pressure applied by Sony and extremely negative word of mouth around the world about Microsoft’s horrible Xbox One policies. Praising Microsoft for the turnaround is like praising a man who finally decides to stop beating his wife."

ms aren't your friend, they're not buying you a sandwich...

So tired of the "you need to renew PS+ to keep the games" excuse. I mean, how long does it take you to finish a game? Also, I would rather get UC3 and Saints Row 3 (2 titles released in 2011) than AC2 (launched in 2009) and Halo 3 (2007).
The free games from MS will stop at some point (when the Xbox One is released I believe) Sony will still give you free games, even PS4 games

It's about value, not quality. You get more value from PS+, and while the XBL gold games may be good, that's not an excuse for giving your loyal fans who have been with your service for 10 years a 6 year old game. 6 year old games are cheap.

xHeavYx3957d ago

The older the games are, the more of a change there is that you already played the game. I mean, who hasn't played AC2 by now?

hazardman3957d ago

What do you know. I for one think its a step in right direction no matter what games your getting. Im pretty sure with time the games will get better.

darthv723957d ago

umm...i haven't play AC2. Hell i havent even played AC1. At first the series didnt interest me but after trying out AC3 i have to go back and start from the beginning to get a better respect for the series.

And if one of those games in the series is a freebie...hey i wont argue with that.

jonboi243957d ago

dazzrazz3957d ago

Yes it will end @ X1 launch and its only available to people who have gold sub

NihonjinChick3957d ago

Bashing your wife is a shameful analogy. Also, this is just another fanboy bait site, right now its so easy to say anything negative about MS to simply get hits, nothing more, nothing new added to the situation. No one really knows what either company will do down the road regarding DRM, but at least MS showed its hands, Sony only told you what you wanted to hear to capitalize and gain traction. The current model involving games sales will eventually burn out, and everyone knows that. You are delusional to think otherwise. The next year will be very interesting....

FateoftheGame3957d ago

Beating your wife is obviously wrong; screwing over consumers is obviously wrong. We shouldn't praise anyone for not realizing the obvious.

And how is this article negative about Microsoft? Did you actually read it? A preview is meant to be provocative and/or attention-getting, but it's not the entire article.

YNWA963957d ago

Read it, get it, but a lot of unnecessary jabs, like the wife bashing..... I do not believe they were screwing the consumers, its just how the people who were not going to buy it anyway and unfortunately MS bottled it. I liked the way it was going to be, did not bother me... but thats just my opinion, which is no doubt not valid...

FateoftheGame3957d ago

From my standpoint, the analogy wasn't unnecessary and makes the point that I am strongly against anti-consumer policies. Now, if you liked the direction Microsoft was going in, fine, but you're not going to convince me to go easy on what the company was trying to do. On the other hand, I can still recognize that Microsoft can be a good company again - that's the entire point of this article.

And by the way, I was planning on buying the new Xbox before Microsoft went crazy. I've been very happy with my 360 for the last five years.

YNWA963956d ago

It is a good analogy for the point you made, it just touches a nerve with my own personal experiences. As for games, I have an awful feeling some big publishers were behind the DRM issue, but stayed very quiet. I do not believe MS alone was behind this. I believe this is only the start as far as DRM is concerned.

Xbox 360 Turns 18: Three Cheers to Live, Halo, and Red Rings

The Xbox 360 launched in North America 18 years ago, and is now officially old enough to buy you a drink in Europe.

darthv72153d ago

Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.

isarai153d ago

The last gasp of greatness from XBox, you are missed, except the RROD that was lame, but amazing exclusives until the Kinect dropped.

TheBrainZ153d ago

So many brilliant games. I still have one stored somewhere.

LG_Fox_Brazil153d ago

I really enjoyed my X360, some great exclusives on it. Used to play the shit out ot Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, two masterpieces

I remember when Live turned five and they had special edition controllers made and everything. Kind of wished they would do that again for the 20th.

Orchard524d ago

Happy Birthday. OG XBL (and later 360 XBL) really revolutionized online gaming on console.

Crows90524d ago

Never understood the obsession with live...but I was gaming online on PC so not sure too much of what live did that the PlayStation didn't.

Profchaos524d ago

I had a PS2 and it's online experience was fine but it didn't have the same level of polish voice chat never worked for me but I was trying to play from Australia where not many people played PS2 online to the point where many devs simply dropped the online mode from the pal version.
That's not all PS2 games mind you there were plenty that worked perfectly but it was more on the dev and not the platform

During that era I also played a fairly large amount on online PC games and they were undoubtedly better than both systems. PS2 from functionality and Xbox because it was free

Playing my friends original Xbox it was a really polished experience it felt robust yet simple things just worked there was zero config.

Crows90524d ago (Edited 524d ago )

Yeah but the time ps3 came the experience was the same on both based on what I played...not too much online though to be honest. But I do think that the xbox did help bring online into the console space a lot. As well as PC games to consoles.

Profchaos524d ago (Edited 524d ago )

Today would of been the perfect day to drop halo 2 the original bc version free on gwg.... If only
