IGN writes: "The first five months of 2008 looks like a great time for WipEout fans. The release of WipEout Pulse in February was a great extension of the popular high-speed franchise, and we discovered at a recent PSN event that Wipeout HD, the upcoming PSN game from SCE Studios Liverpool, is scheduled to be released at the end of May. We were eager to jump behind the controls of our favorite anti-grav ship and rocket our way down a track at breathtaking speeds. Even though the version that we played was an early beta build, it still held enough of an adrenaline rush for any WipEout veteran.
If you've played WipEout Pulse, much of WipEout HD will appear somewhat familiar. The eight racing teams from the game have been included within the title, so players will be able to choose their favorite and work on their loyalty stats to unlock ship skins. What's more, WipEout HD borrows Pulse's Photo Mode, its arsenal of weapons, its custom soundtrack feature and its variety of difficulty levels to adjust your gameplay experience. But perhaps most importantly, WipEout HD borrows Pulse's grid system for single player campaigns. That will allow players to test their skills in Single Race, Tournament, Time Trial, Speed Lap and Zone modes, unlocking additional tracks along the way."
